RGCB Scientist Biotechnology Recruitment 2026: Overview

BRIC-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (BRIC-RGCB) is recruiting scientists to build independent, multidisciplinary research programmes. The institute belongs to the Biotechnology, Research & Innovation Council under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology. Its rolling faculty recruitment supports a wider push into translational research, connecting laboratory discoveries with disease biology and biotechnology applications.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Scientist C: This grade is part of the same faculty recruitment as the senior scientist positions. Applicants can propose research aligned with the institute's priority areas.
  • Scientist E-II and Scientist F: These senior grades support the institute's multidisciplinary research plans. The notice also recognises technology development and commercial translation as important scientific contributions.
  • Cancer research: The programme includes cancer genomics, molecular diagnostics, nanobiotechnology and work on the molecular, cellular and structural basis of cancers common in India.
  • Therapeutics and bioengineering: Research interests include cell engineering, targeted drug discovery, delivery approaches, immunotherapeutics, vaccines, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
  • Pathogen biology and neuroscience: The institute highlights host-pathogen interactions, virology, systems biology, brain development, neural stem cells and translational neuroscience.
  • Other priority areas: Cardiovascular and diabetes biology, preventive diagnostics, biosensors and plant biotechnology also feature. The plant programme includes spice genomics and medicinal-plant biology.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Research independence: Investigators receive shared laboratory space and start-up resources. You are expected to bring in substantial external project funding to develop your programme.
  • Collaborative setting: The institute wants researchers who can work across disciplines. Its listed research themes guide the drive, but the notice does not restrict proposals entirely to those themes.
  • Rolling recruitment: Applications are accepted through the year and reviewed quarterly. The portal will close briefly between rounds, so the current quarter and a later round are separate consideration windows.
  • Available positions: Final appointments depend on vacancies at the relevant time. The Director may fill additional positions with identical requirements from the shortlist, or leave advertised posts unfilled.
  • Posting liability: You may be posted to any institute office or branch in India according to administrative needs. Do not assume the appointment is restricted to the Thiruvananthapuram campus.
  • Administrative discretion: The institute may withdraw advertised posts. Meeting the minimum requirements alone does not create a right to an interview or appointment.
  • Existing public-sector employment: Applications from government, public-sector and autonomous-body staff must follow the proper channel. The notice permits an advance copy; its employer-clearance condition still applies.

Application Submission Notes

Use the Apply Online route linked in the official faculty notice. For technical problems with the application, write to facultyrecruitment@rgcb.res.in; this address is for support and does not replace the online application.

Corrigenda and Notices

  • Corrigendum to advertisement RGCB/Advt./Sci/01/2026: The institute revised the research-experience and publication wording for Scientist E-II and Scientist F. The Scientist C requirements remain unchanged; the revised criteria are reflected in the eligibility fields.

Responsibilities

  • Build an independent multidisciplinary research programme in an institute priority area.
  • Develop research that connects biotechnology discoveries with disease biology or practical applications.
  • Collaborate with researchers across disciplines on shared scientific questions.
  • Generate external project funding to support your research programme.
  • Produce high-quality scientific publications or technology-development outputs relevant to your research.
