Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has released a notification for 1 Senior Research Fellow post in the Department of Physics. This position is under a DST (Department of Science and Technology) sponsored research project titled "Indian Participation in the ALICE Experiment at CERN", led by Prof. Lokesh Kumar as Principal Investigator. Candidates with 2 years of JRF experience in Experimental Heavy Ion Collisions are preferred.

The ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is one of the four major detector experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, Switzerland. It studies the physics of matter at extremely high energy density created in heavy-ion collisions. Working on this project gives you the chance to be part of an international collaborative research effort and gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge experimental particle physics — an excellent opportunity for physics postgraduates who want a research career.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need at least 55% marks in M.Sc (Physics) from a recognized university/institution (50% marks for SC/ST/PH candidates).
• Fellowship Eligibility: You must be NET/GATE qualified as per DST guidelines to draw the SRF fellowship rate.
• Desirable: 2 years of experience as a JRF in Experimental Heavy Ion Collisions is preferred.
• About SRF Fellowships: A Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) is a higher tier of research fellowship, generally offered to scholars who have already completed at least two years as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF), and it carries a higher monthly stipend than the JRF rate.

Salary

• You will get a fixed fellowship of Rs. 42,000 per month plus HRA as a Senior Research Fellow, as per DST guidelines.
• As an SRF, you draw a higher fellowship rate than a Junior Research Fellow (JRF), reflecting your added research experience.
• The position is under the DST-sponsored project and the tenure will run until 31 December 2026, extendable if the project is extended.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Application Screening: Your CV and qualifications will be checked by the selection committee against the eligibility criteria.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the interview date on their email ID after the last date of receiving applications. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

Since there is no written exam for this fellowship position, your academic record, research experience and performance in the interview will decide your selection.
