NITC Project Research Scientist CSE Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) is engaging a Project Research Scientist-I in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering for an Indian Council of Medical Research-backed study. The project will build spatio-temporal models of mental well-being by connecting GIS, climate and environmental information across India. This is a project contract suited to an engineer who enjoys programming, data-led research and work that connects computing with public health. The selected researcher may also get an opportunity to enrol for a Ph.D. at NIT Calicut, subject to the institute's rules.

Your work will sit inside a multidisciplinary research setting where computer science methods are used to study how place, time and environmental conditions relate to mental well-being. A strong application should make the connection between your engineering training, programming ability and the project's modelling needs easy to understand. GATE or NET qualification can strengthen your profile, but the institute separately checks the essential academic route and marks stated in the notice.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract tenure: the initial engagement is for one year and may be extended up to three years according to the project and institute decision.
  • Academic standards: the notice provides two qualification routes with different mark or CGPA thresholds, so you should identify the route that matches your record rather than combining them.
  • Reserved-category concession: SC, ST and PwD applicants receive the stated relaxation in marks or CGPA; supporting proof should be ready when requested.
  • Institute accommodation: the HRA component applies only when accommodation is not provided by NIT Calicut.
  • Shortlisting communication: NIT Calicut will contact shortlisted applicants by email, so use an active address and monitor it after applying.
  • Document responsibility: you are responsible for the accuracy of the form, photograph, academic records and experience details you send.
  • Exceptional credentials: the institute may relax qualification or experience requirements when a profile is unusually strong.
  • Current employment: if you already work for the government or another organisation, carry a No Objection Certificate from your employer for the interview.
  • Travel costs: NIT Calicut will not pay TA or DA for attending the offline interview.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the registration form attached to the notification and combine it with your latest CV and soft copies of supporting mark sheets and certificates. Send the material as a single PDF by email to the addresses printed in the official notice, using the prescribed Research Scientist-I subject line. There is no separate web application form for this recruitment.

Make sure the PDF opens properly, every certificate is readable and the academic details agree across the form and CV. Keep the original records and your employer's NOC, when applicable, ready for the interview. The shortlisting message will be sent by email, so also check your spam folder while waiting for an update.

Responsibilities

  • Develop spatio-temporal models for the mental well-being research project
  • Analyse GIS, climate and environmental datasets used in the study
  • Write and test computer programs for data processing and predictive modelling
  • Check model quality and document methods, assumptions and results
  • Prepare research summaries, technical notes and project progress material
  • Coordinate data and findings with the principal investigator and project team
  • Keep organised code, datasets and reproducible research records
