JHC Law Researchers and Research Associates Recruitment 2026: Overview
The High Court of Jharkhand (JHC), Ranchi is engaging Law Researchers and Research Associates to support its judges with judicial and administrative work. Both names refer to the same contractual engagement under the court’s research scheme. You will work with an assigned judge, with confidentiality and restrictions on outside work forming central conditions of the assignment.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The initial term is one year. An extension for one further year depends on the required approval and satisfactory work; the total engagement cannot exceed two years.
- Employment status: This is a temporary contractual assignment. It gives you no right to claim a regular appointment with the High Court or the State Government.
- Work setting: Your headquarters will be the High Court at Ranchi. The assigned judge may direct you to work in court, in the court library or at the judge’s residential office.
- Availability: Work may extend beyond normal office hours and include public or weekly holidays. The schedule is adjusted with the judge concerned, so you should be ready for this arrangement.
- Outside work: You cannot practise as a lawyer or accept another full-time or part-time engagement during the assignment. The scheme also bars other assignments during your term.
- Restrictions after leaving: You cannot appear before the judge you assisted for one year after your engagement ends. You also cannot appear in a case handled by that judge if you worked on that case.
- Confidentiality: Court papers, discussions and information you encounter must remain confidential, including after your term ends. The scheme allows disclosure only when legally needed for lawful duties.
- Leave and attendance: You need permission before taking leave or leaving headquarters. Casual leave follows the provision applicable to State Government employees; other leave is not available under the scheme.
- Early exit: The court may end the engagement with one month’s notice or salary in its place. If you leave early, the scheme specifies notice of two months or the remaining tenure, whichever is higher.
- Completion certificate: The Registrar General issues a certificate after successful completion. Early termination or voluntary departure can affect your entitlement under the scheme.
- Travel and court decisions: The court does not pay travel or daily allowance for attending the interview. It may postpone or cancel the engagement process, and its decision on engagement is final.
