Jharkhand HC Law Researcher Recruitment 2026: Overview
High Court of Jharkhand is engaging Law Researchers and Research Associates at its Ranchi seat to support judicial research and court work. The engagement is contractual rather than a regular civil-service appointment, making it especially relevant for new law graduates who want close exposure to legal reasoning, case preparation and the functioning of a constitutional court. Final-year LL.B students can also be considered, provided they pass their qualifying examination before joining.
The role places you in a research-focused environment where accuracy, confidentiality and clear legal writing matter every day. You may work with judgments, statutes, case records and reference material while helping the assigned judicial office examine legal questions. Computer familiarity receives preference, which reflects the court's need for researchers who can search, organise and present legal material efficiently.
This engagement can help an early-career lawyer understand court procedure and judicial decision-making from close range. It does not, however, create a right to permanent employment with the High Court or the Jharkhand government. You should treat it as a time-bound professional assignment with clear conduct standards.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: the initial contract runs for one year and may be extended once for another year. The maximum engagement period is two years.
- Employment status: the assignment does not give you any claim to a regular High Court or state-government post.
- Professional standing: you must have sound health and good moral character, with no involvement in a criminal case or an offence involving moral turpitude.
- Original records: the court will check supporting originals during document verification or the interview. Any unsupported claim can lead to cancellation.
- Communication: shortlisted applicants will receive individual interview intimation through the email address entered in the form, while general updates will appear on the court website.
- Travel: the court will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview.
- Application accuracy: your name, date of birth and father's name must match the Matriculation certificate. Blurred photographs, signatures or incomplete forms can lead to rejection.
- Recruitment control: the High Court may postpone or cancel the engagement process, and its decision on selection is final.
