IIT Guwahati Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) is building a small field team for the project Soil Fertility Assessment Using Soil Organic Carbon Detection Kit: Capacity Building and Implementation in Assam, North-East India. The work sits within the School of Agro and Rural Technology and connects scientific assessment with farmer outreach, field records and practical implementation. This is a short project engagement with an online selection meeting, so it suits applicants who can join a focused assignment and contribute immediately.
The project is not limited to desk-based research at the institute. Its title and preferred experience show a strong field and community-facing focus across Northeast India, with soil-related data collection, training and interaction with rural stakeholders forming the working context. You should be comfortable switching between field visits, accurate documentation and communication with the project team. Applicants are considered for the role selected in the recruitment portal, and only shortlisted people will receive the interview email.
Posts and Disciplines
- Assistant Project Scientist: A field-research and coordination role covering community interaction, data collection, analysis, presentation and project reporting. Frequent travel across Northeast India is an important part of this assignment.
- Project Technician: A technical-support role focused on field records, sample identification, data sheets, computer-based data handling and support for farmer training or capacity-building activities.
Both posts support the same soil-fertility project, but they have different day-to-day emphasis. The scientist role leans toward stakeholder coordination and analytical reporting, while the technician role keeps field information and samples organised so the wider project can use reliable data.
Post-wise Duties
Assistant Project Scientist
You will work with farmers and rural communities, organise field data, document interactions and help turn observations into reports and presentations. The role also involves supporting stakeholder communication and travelling to project locations across the region.
Project Technician
You will maintain sample labels, field registers, data sheets and project files while helping with data entry, tables, graphs and routine documentation. You may also support agricultural fieldwork, training sessions and direct interaction with farmers or other stakeholders.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: Each post is offered for a short initial appointment tied to the named project, not as a regular institute position.
- Interview access: Only shortlisted applicants will receive an email invitation for the online interview.
- Accommodation: IIT Guwahati will not provide campus housing to the selected project staff.
- Interview expenses: The institute will not pay TA or DA for taking part in the test or interview.
- Field mobility: The scientist assignment especially calls for readiness to travel widely across Northeast India.
Read the role-specific qualification route carefully before choosing a post, because the education and experience combinations are different. Keep your registered email active after applying, as the institute uses email to communicate the shortlist and online interview details.
