IIPS Research Officer Statistics Recruitment 2026: Overview

International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), a deemed-to-be university under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is hiring a Research Officer (Statistics) in Mumbai for its Urban Population Projection in India 2011-2041 project. The work sits at the meeting point of demography, official statistics and urban planning, using Census and large-scale survey data to study how India's urban population may change. This is a hands-on quantitative research role for someone who can move from raw secondary data to clear analysis and written project outputs.

The project needs more than routine data entry. You will review earlier research, process Census material, manage datasets, apply statistical methods and help the team explain results in reports and papers. A background in population projections or urbanisation research would help you contribute quickly, while strong spoken and written English supports coordination and publication work.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project appointment: the role is purely temporary and tied to the Urban Population Projection project.
• Tenure: the first engagement is for six months and may continue up to the project's tenure, depending on the institute's needs and extension decision.
• Qualification flexibility: the selection committee may relax the essential qualification for a person it finds exceptionally suitable.
• Shortlisting: only shortlisted applicants are contacted for the hybrid interview, so completing the application does not guarantee an interview call.
