IIM Mumbai Student Counsellor Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, is building a round-the-clock counselling service for students at its residential Powai campus. The Student Counsellor role sits at the centre of the institute's mental-health and personal-support system, with separate day and night coverage so students can reach help beyond classroom hours. This is a contractual campus role rather than a teaching appointment, and it suits professionals comfortable working with young adults in a demanding academic environment.
Your work will connect individual counselling, early identification and referral with wider campus support. The notice places equal weight on confidential one-to-one help and preventive work such as workshops, orientation sessions and awareness programmes. Counsellors may support students in person or through telephone, online and chat-based channels, making experience with technology-enabled mental-health services particularly useful.
The institute expects the counsellor to work with faculty, academic administrators, residential-life teams and medical professionals when a student's needs call for coordinated support. Professional confidentiality remains central: case notes, referrals and reports must be handled carefully, while a student needing clinical intervention should be connected to an appropriate specialist. The position therefore combines direct counselling with responsible documentation and campus-wide well-being work.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Contract period: The first engagement is for one year. It may be extended one year at a time for up to three more years, depending on your performance and the institute's need; the post does not create a claim to regular appointment or absorption.
- Shift pattern: Day duty runs from 09:00 to 17:30, Monday to Saturday. Night duty runs from 22:00 to 06:00 on an alternate-night roster, and remote counselling may also be assigned during night hours.
- Campus housing: Institute or leased accommodation will be provided, with electricity and water charged at actual cost. A person using this accommodation will not receive House Rent Allowance.
- Annual review: Consolidated pay may be reviewed after each completed year within the advertised upper limit, based on the reporting officer's assessment.
- Citizenship and records: Only Indian citizens can apply. Enter your exact marks without rounding and keep an active email address, because the institute will send recruitment communication only by email.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the basic conditions does not guarantee a call. IIM Mumbai may use higher qualifications or stronger experience to keep the shortlist manageable.
- Panel and attendance: The approved panel remains valid for one year and may be used for later appointments. The institute will not pay travel or daily allowance for attending an in-person process.
- Other conditions: The advertised strength may change, canvassing leads to disqualification, and any legal dispute is restricted to Mumbai jurisdiction.
