DRDO MTRDC JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Microwave Tube Research and Development Centre (MTRDC), a Bengaluru laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence, is taking Junior Research Fellows (JRF) through a walk-in interview. The centre designs and builds microwave tubes and microwave power modules that go into radar, electronic warfare and communication systems, and it runs world-class facilities for this work.

This fellowship suits you if you want hands-on research in vacuum electronic devices. The work cuts across several fields at once: material science, ultra-high vacuum, physical electronics, microwave engineering, electromagnetics, particle-in-cell simulation and computer-aided design. It is a two-year research fellowship, not a regular DRDO job, and it is open to Indian nationals with an electronics or electrical background. Three routes lead in: an engineering degree with NET/GATE, an M.Sc in Electronics with NET, or a first-division M.E./M.Tech.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• No absorption: the fellowship does not give you any right to be absorbed into DRDO once it ends.
• Tenure: the fellowship runs for two years and can be extended by a further period of up to two years.
• Number of fellowships: the count may change depending on what the centre needs, so the final number selected can differ from the advertised figure.
• Selection panel: the panel prepared after the interview stays valid for one year from the interview date.
• Same-day process: any test and the interview both happen on the same day, so plan to stay at the venue for the whole day.
• No travel allowance: MTRDC will not pay TA for attending the walk-in.
• Employed candidates: if you work in a government office, PSU or autonomous body, bring a No Objection Certificate from your current employer.
• Reserved categories: SC, ST and OBC candidates must bring the original caste certificate, and candidates with disabilities need a medical certificate from a government hospital or medical board to claim relaxation.

Carry a complete bio-data with a recent passport-size photo pasted on the top right corner of the first page.
