CUTN Materials Science JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow or Project Fellow in its Department of Materials Science, School of Technology at the Neelakudi campus in Thiruvarur. The researcher will join an Inter-University Accelerator Centre funded project led by Dr V. Gunasekaran. The work focuses on rare-earth-metal-doped carbon dots treated with swift heavy ions and their use in electrocatalysis for greener hydrogen generation. This is a project appointment rather than a regular university post.

The research theme combines materials synthesis, electrochemistry and clean-energy applications. It is best suited to a Physics postgraduate who wants laboratory experience in nanomaterials, electrochemical energy storage or ion-beam studies. The notice also makes an important distinction between applicants with and without NET or GATE, which places them on different fellowship tracks.

The project connects fundamental materials work with an applied energy goal. You would be working in a university research setting while the funding and accelerator partnership come from IUAC, New Delhi. That combination can offer practical exposure to sample preparation, instrument-based study and the careful comparison of electrochemical results across treated materials.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Initial appointment: The appointment begins with a one-year term. A further extension depends on satisfactory performance and the release of project funds by IUAC, New Delhi.
  • Project tenure: The wider project is temporary and runs for a little over two years. Continuing in the role does not create a claim to a regular CUTN position.
  • Academic status: Applicants who already hold a PhD or are enrolled in a PhD programme cannot be considered under this notice.
  • Shortlisting: CUTN will contact only shortlisted applicants. The university will communicate the interview mode directly, so you should keep your email address and phone number active.
  • Research fit: Prior work in nanomaterial synthesis, electrocatalysis, supercapacitors, electrochemical storage or ion-beam research can strengthen your application, but the notice treats it as a preference rather than a separate mandatory degree.
  • Funding condition: Any continuation is tied to the availability and formal release of IUAC funds, even when your performance is satisfactory.

Application Submission Notes

Send your bio-data and supporting scans by email to gunasekaran@acad.cutn.ac.in, addressed to Dr V. Gunasekaran, Assistant Professor and Project Investigator, Department of Materials Science, CUTN. Your attachment set should clearly identify your degree, marks and relevant research exposure so the project team can assess your fit without asking for basic information again.

This is an email-only application process. There is no separate online form in the notice, and the university careers page is only the announcement index. Use a clear subject line naming the JRF/Project Fellow IUAC project, attach readable files, and retain the sent-email copy for your records. The interview schedule and mode will be shared only with shortlisted applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize and characterize rare-earth-metal-doped carbon-dot materials
  • Run electrocatalysis experiments connected with green hydrogen generation
  • Handle electrochemical measurements and maintain accurate laboratory records
  • Support swift-heavy-ion related sample studies and analysis
  • Compare experimental results and prepare data for project reviews
  • Maintain research samples, instruments and safety documentation
  • Help prepare technical reports, presentations and research outputs
