CSIR-NIO Project Associate-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), part of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is engaging a Project Associate-II at its headquarters in Goa. This is a short research appointment built around coastal and groundwater work, so it suits someone who enjoys combining earth-science analysis with practical field observation. The role is based in a national marine-research laboratory rather than a routine office setting.

The assignment connects geology, satellite information and geographic information systems. Coastal change and groundwater questions often need evidence from several sources: field notes, mapped shoreline features, remotely sensed images and location-linked datasets. Your work will help the project team bring those sources together in a form that can support scientific interpretation and reporting. Careful comparison across these layers is central to producing a dependable scientific account.

A major feature of this post is its field-oriented working style. The institute expects the project team to visit coastal areas and, when the study needs it, travel by boat or ship. That means you should be comfortable moving between desk-based GIS work and outdoor data collection, while keeping observations clear enough for later analysis. Marine schedules can depend on weather, vessel availability and the needs of the study.

The research side is equally important. You will contribute to technical writing and research articles, which calls for careful record-keeping and a clear explanation of methods and results. Experience with groundwater studies, shoreline studies, satellite-data processing and GIS software is especially useful because these are the areas highlighted by the institute. The post offers focused exposure to how a CSIR laboratory turns field evidence into publishable marine and coastal research.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The engagement is for 3 months. It is a project appointment and should not be read as a regular or permanent CSIR-NIO post.
  • Place of work: You will be attached to the CSIR-NIO headquarters in Goa, with field movement to coastal locations when the project requires it.
  • Marine fieldwork: Participation in trips by boat or ship is part of the work. You should consider the practical demands of travel at sea before applying.
  • Work mix: The assignment combines field observations, satellite-data handling, GIS-based analysis and scientific writing; it is not limited to laboratory or computer work alone.
  • Project direction: Day-to-day priorities may change with the study schedule, and you will also handle research tasks assigned by the project leader within the scope of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Join field visits aboard boats or ships and at coastal sites
  • Collect and organize groundwater and shoreline study observations
  • Process satellite data for project analysis
  • Use GIS software to map and examine coastal information
  • Prepare research notes, figures, and draft articles
  • Support the project leader with assigned scientific work
