CMFRI Young Professional-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Kochi, is hiring Young Professional-I staff for a project-linked assignment under file no. FFD-SSFI-Consultancy/2026-2027. There are two distinct roles — one for fishery biology field and sampling work and one for data analytics — and both are based at the institute's headquarters in Kochi, Kerala. This is a temporary, contractual engagement that ends with the project, so it suits fresh science graduates who want hands-on research experience at a leading ICAR institute.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Young Professional-I (Fishery Biology): for graduates in Fisheries Science, Zoology or Life Science. A master's in fisheries, field sampling experience and a good grip on marine fish identification will give you an edge.
  • Young Professional-I (Data Analytics): for first-class B.Sc. graduates with Statistics or Mathematics as the main subject who are comfortable with R, Python, SPSS and Excel. Earlier data work in ICAR or central government projects is preferred.

Post-wise Duties

Young Professional-I (Fishery Biology)

You will help with fisheries data collection and biological sampling, identify marine fish species, and compile and document field records for the project team.

Young Professional-I (Data Analytics)

You will compile and clean project data, run statistical and visualisation tools on it, and help put together the project's reports.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: Purely on contract for one year from joining, renewable each year as per ICAR guidelines, and co-terminus with the project.
  • No regular job claim: Selected candidates cannot claim a regular appointment at CMFRI later.
  • Termination: The competent authority can end the engagement at any time without giving a reason.
  • Relatives at ICAR/CMFRI: If any near or distant relative works at ICAR or CMFRI, you must declare it in Annexure-II before the deadline; declaring it only on interview day means you will not be interviewed.
  • Working candidates: Bring a No Objection Certificate from your current employer, if applicable.
  • No TA/DA: No travel allowance is paid for attending the interview.
  • Honesty clause: Hiding facts or canvassing in any form leads to disqualification or termination.

Application Submission Notes

Email your bio-data (Annexure-I), the signed Annexure-II declaration and scanned copies of your original certificates to ffdcareer26@gmail.com. Mention which Young Professional-I role you are applying for. Only shortlisted candidates will get an email with the in-person interview date and time — you cannot walk in without that invite, and you must show your original (or at least provisional) certificates before joining.

  • Collect, compile and document marine fisheries data
  • Carry out biological sampling and field-based fisheries research
