The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, is looking to fill one Member (Thermal) post through deputation or short-term contract. Central Electricity Authority (CEA) Member (Thermal) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Ministry of Power has invited applications for the post of Member (Thermal) in the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), New Delhi, through circular No. A-35018/03/2026-Adm.I. The CEA is a statutory body under the Ministry of Power that advises the Government of India on national power policy and prepares plans for the development of the country's power system; the Member (Thermal) is a senior management position responsible for thermal power generation matters within this body. The appointment is governed by Section 70 of the Electricity Act, 2003 and the Central Electricity Authority (Terms and Conditions of Service of Chairperson and other Members) Rules, 2024. This is not an open direct-recruitment post — only officers already working in government, PSU, autonomous, statutory, university, or recognized research bodies can be considered.

Who Can Apply?

  • Eligibility: You must be a serving officer of the Central Government, State Government, Union Territory, an autonomous or statutory organization, a Public Sector Undertaking, a University, or a recognized research institution
  • Post held: Holding an analogous post on a regular basis, OR holding a Pay Level-14 post with at least 5 years of regular service in that grade
  • Experience: At least 3 years of field experience relevant to the post, as per Section 70(5) of the Electricity Act, 2003
  • Mode of appointment: Deputation, including short-term contract, for a term of up to 5 years or until you reach superannuation age, whichever comes first — extendable up to a maximum total deputation period of 7 years

This is a senior deputation vacancy for serving government/PSU officers. If you are not currently employed in a Central/State Government, PSU, autonomous or statutory organization, you are not eligible to apply for this post.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit is 58 years as on the date of vacancy, i.e. 1 June 2027.

Salary

  • The post carries pay at Level-15 (Rs. 1,82,200 to Rs. 2,24,100 per month) in the 7th CPC pay matrix, along with the ex-officio status of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

Selection Process

The selection involves these steps:

  1. Eligibility Screening: The Ministry of Power checks your age, qualification and experience against the prescribed criteria
  2. Document Verification: Your APARs for the last 5 years, Vigilance Clearance Certificate, and Integrity Certificate are examined
  3. Selection by Competent Authority: Based on your service record and eligibility, the appointing authority selects the Member (Thermal)

Responsibilities
