AWEIL Director DCC Recruitment 2026: Overview

Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), a Schedule A defence PSU under the Department of Defence Production, is engaging a Director for the DPSU Coordination Cell (DCC) to be established at IIT Kanpur. AWEIL makes and supplies weapon systems, small arms, tank-gun articles and ammunition components through production units in several states. The new cell is intended to connect defence production with academic research, helping AWEIL and IIT Kanpur build long-term projects in science and engineering through M.Tech and PhD researchers. This is a senior post-retirement assignment for an executive, professor, scientist or comparable government officer.

The Director will be the operating link between AWEIL leadership and the IIT Kanpur research community. You will turn selected ideas into managed projects, review progress with the Dean, faculty and research scholars, and surface technical or administrative blocks before they delay delivery. The role also carries responsibility for the cell’s annual budget, day-to-day spending within delegated powers, infrastructure setup and contractual staffing. It calls for both technical judgement and the ability to coordinate institutions with different working styles.

External coordination is another important part of the assignment. The cell may work with DRDO, iDEX, the Armed Forces, industry specialists and other defence PSUs, so you should be able to represent project needs clearly and build useful working relationships. Monthly reporting goes to the CMD through the Director (Operations), with recommendations on whether projects should continue, pause or change after technical review.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The initial full-time contract is for two years. It may be extended by mutual agreement according to departmental need and performance, subject to the notification’s overall tenure and age ceiling.
• Pay progression: The fixed consolidated amount will not receive an annual increment or percentage increase during the contract.
• Official travel: TA and DA follow the government rules attached to the last post held before retirement.
• Work support: AWEIL will provide office transport and reimburse official internet and mobile use under government norms; accommodation at Kanpur follows company rules.
• Leave: The engagement provides 30 days of leave for each completed calendar year.
• Confidentiality: The selected Director is governed by the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and must protect information and data seen during the engagement.
• Shortlisting ratio: AWEIL plans to call applicants for interview in a vacancy-to-candidate ratio of 1:10, using total qualification, experience and relevant R&D work for scrutiny.
