Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has released Advertisement No. WII/ADVT. 1/RP-CELL/June, 2026. The recruitment is for 50 Technical Assistant positions under the All India Tiger Estimation (AITE 2026) project. This is a project-based temporary engagement for one year, with likely extension based on project needs and institute rules.

Essential Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in science from a recognised university in Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Geoinformatics, Life Sciences, Agriculture or Forestry.
  • OR 3 years Diploma in Engineering.

  • Prior experience in wildlife research, biodiversity assessment and ecological field surveys.
  • Experience with camera trapping, telemetry, GIS and remote sensing applications.
  • Data management, analysis and technical report preparation skills.
  • Ability to process and segregate camera-trap photographs and support species identification work.

Work Area

  • Carrying out camera trap data processing, geo-tagging using CaTRAT and segregation of camera-trap photographs into different species.
  • Supporting tiger and leopard identification using Extract Compare and manual identification.
  • Supporting camera trapping, line transect, sign survey and habitat assessment field work.

Selection Process

WII will shortlist applicants for online interview based on qualification, age, marks, relevance of specialization, research/work experience and publications as per institute rules.

  1. Application Screening: WII checks education, marks, age, experience, fee receipt and uploaded documents.
  2. Merit Shortlisting: For Field/Lab/Project Assistant category posts, screening carries 25 marks for bachelor's degree percentage and 25 marks for specialization relevance, making 50 marks total.
  3. Online Interview: The top 10 shortlisted candidates against the advertised position are called for interview.
  4. Document Verification: Selected candidates must produce original documents and certificates at joining for verification.

Meeting the minimum qualification does not automatically guarantee an interview call. The institute's decision on eligibility, screening and selection is final.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in science (Wildlife Science/Zoology/Ecology/Environmental Science/Geoinformatics/Life Sciences/Agriculture/Forestry) from a recognized university OR 3 years Diploma in Engineering.

Preferred Qualification

Prior experience in wildlife research, biodiversity assessment, ecological field surveys, camera trapping, telemetry, GIS, remote sensing, data management, data analysis and technical report preparation.
