Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is hiring 14 project staff for wildlife, ecology, GIS, genomics and field research projects. WII Project Recruitment 2026 - 14 Posts
Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, has released Advt. No. WII/ADVT. 2/RP-CELL/June, 2026 for project positions across four research projects. These projects cover the Satpura-Pench-Melghat landscape, pathogen surveillance at the human-livestock-wildlife interface in Sariska Tiger Reserve, wildlife management planning for mining impact in Odisha, and Saltwater Crocodile conservation in Great Nicobar Island. All positions are temporary and project-linked, with durations from one year to one year six months, and some roles may be extended based on project needs.

Who Can Apply?
Project Associate I Roles
- Qualification: You need a four-year Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or relevant engineering degree in natural sciences, wildlife science, zoology, ecology, marine sciences, environmental sciences, geoinformatics, life sciences, agriculture, forestry, veterinary science, computer science, remote sensing, GIS, data science, civil, electrical, electronics or visual communication areas.
- Higher pay condition: NET or GATE qualified Project Associate I applicants can get Rs. 37,000 + HRA; non-NET or non-GATE applicants get Rs. 30,000 + HRA.
- Useful experience: GIS, remote sensing, ecological sampling, vegetation survey, landscape ecology, conservation communication, drone documentation, and field work in protected areas will help.
Project Scientist and Senior Research Roles
- Project Research Scientist II: You need a first class Master's degree in biology, genomics, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, life sciences, veterinary science or equivalent with 3 years of experience, or a Ph.D. route as mentioned in the notice.
- Project Scientist-I: You need a Ph.D. in Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology or Life Sciences.
- Senior Project Associate: You need a Master's degree in Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology or Life Sciences with 4 years of experience in R&D or scientific services.
Project Technical Support-II and Project Assistant
- Project Technical Support-II: You need a three-year Bachelor's degree in life science, wildlife science, biology, genomics, genetics, bioinformatics or equivalent with 3 years of experience, or a relevant Master's degree.
- Project Assistant: You need a Bachelor's degree in science areas such as wildlife science, zoology, ecology, environmental sciences, geoinformatics, remote sensing, life sciences, marine sciences, agriculture or forestry.
Age Limit
- Project Research Scientist II: Maximum 40 years.
- Project Associate I, Project Technical Support-II, Project Scientist-I and Senior Project Associate: Maximum 35 years for most posts.
- Project Assistant for Great Nicobar Island: Maximum 50 years.
- Age date: Age is counted as on the last date of application, 30 June 2026.
- Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get up to 5 years and OBC candidates get up to 3 years as per Government of India rules mentioned in the notification.
Salary
- Project Scientist-I: Rs. 77,000 + HRA per month.
- Project Research Scientist II: Rs. 67,000 + HRA per month.
- Senior Project Associate: Rs. 57,000 + HRA per month.
- Project Associate I: Rs. 37,000 + HRA for NET/GATE qualified applicants or Rs. 30,000 + HRA for non-NET/non-GATE applicants.
- Project Technical Support-II: Rs. 28,000 + HRA per month.
- Project Assistant: Rs. 27,000 + HRA per month.
Application Fee
- General category applicants need to pay Rs. 500.
- SC / ST / OBC / EWS / Physically Challenged applicants are exempt from the main fee but need to pay Rs. 100 as application processing fee.
- Payment mode: Online banking, NEFT, RTGS, electronic mode, UPI, cash or demand draft using the bank details in the notification.
- Important: Upload the payment receipt in the online application form. The processing fee is non-refundable.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
WII will shortlist applicants for online interview based on education, age, marks, project relevance, experience and publications. The notification does not mention a written exam for these posts.
- Application screening: WII checks qualification, age, degree marks, specialization relevance, work experience and publications.
- Shortlisting: The top 10 shortlisted candidates against each project or position may be called for interview.
- Online interview: A Selection Committee conducts the interview for the shortlisted candidates.
- Document verification: Selected candidates must show original certificates at joining for age, education, experience, category, fee payment and other claims.

Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys for vegetation, habitat, biodiversity, crocodile, pathogen or wildlife-impact studies
- Collect and organize ecological, GIS, remote sensing, laboratory or field-sampling data
- Analyze project data using scientific, statistical, spatial or genomics tools as required by the role
- Prepare maps, reports, scientific notes, outreach material and project documentation
- Coordinate with WII project teams, forest departments, local stakeholders and collaborating laboratories
- Follow field safety, sample handling, document verification and project reporting rules
- Assist Principal Investigators with meetings, monitoring work, data interpretation and final reports
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in relevant science, wildlife, ecology, environmental science, remote sensing, life sciences, agriculture, forestry, veterinary, engineering or technology area; higher posts need Master's degree, experience or Ph.D. as per position
Preferred Qualification
NET/GATE for Project Associate I higher pay; GIS, remote sensing, ecological sampling, genomics, pathogen surveillance, field survey, data analysis, scientific writing and relevant project experience
Required Skills
