WII Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is recruiting project staff through its Recruitment and Placement Cell for nine wildlife research projects. The contractual roles cover field research, ecological assessment, geographic information systems, project coordination and scientific analysis. Each appointment is temporary and linked to the needs and duration of its project.

The work spans the Sundarbans, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The projects include migratory-bird and sloth-bear conservation, tiger monitoring, and biodiversity studies connected with highways and drilling activity.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Scientist-I: senior scientific roles for candidates who can guide research design, analyse findings and support technical reporting.
• Principal and Senior Project Associates: experienced research roles, including a GIS-focused position for spatial data and remote-sensing work.
• Project Associate I and II: field and desk-based research roles across wildlife science, zoology, ecology, environmental science, geoinformatics, life science, agriculture and forestry.
• Government Liaison and Coordination: a social-science role focused on communication with departments, institutions and project partners.
• Project Assistant and Field Worker: support roles involving surveys, records, equipment, samples and work at field locations.

Post-wise Duties

Scientific and Senior Research Roles

You will help plan studies, supervise field and analytical work, interpret ecological or spatial data, and prepare technical reports and research outputs. GIS specialists will work with mapping, remote sensing and location-based datasets.

Project Associate Roles

You will conduct surveys, manage wildlife and habitat data, support camera-trap or GPS-based monitoring, and coordinate with forest staff, local communities and project partners. Your exact work will depend on the project and advertised position.

Project Assistant and Field Worker Roles

You will support field logistics, keep survey and sample records, handle project equipment and help the research team collect reliable data. Some assignments involve demanding work in remote areas, including island and forest locations.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Temporary engagement: these are project-based contractual posts and do not create a claim to a permanent WII appointment.
• Position choice: you may apply for no more than two advertised positions, and each position needs its own form and payment.
• Field readiness: several roles require travel, outdoor surveys and work in remote project landscapes.
• Current WII personnel: anyone already engaged in a WII project or research activity must provide the required no-objection certificate.
• Original records: selected candidates must show their original supporting documents when they join.
