The Recruitment and Placement Cell of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has invited applications to fill 20 positions across 5 ongoing research projects. These projects cover sea turtle conservation in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nicobar megapode movement ecology, a World Natural Heritage training centre, environmental flow assessment of the Chambal and Tons rivers, and the impact of underwater tunnel construction on aquatic life in the Brahmaputra. There is no written exam — shortlisted candidates are called directly for an online interview. Fresh graduates as well as experienced researchers with NET/GATE qualifications can apply, since roles range from Administrative Assistant to Senior Project Associate.

Who Can Apply?

Administrative Assistant & Scientific Administrative Assistant/Field Worker:

  • You need a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized institute/University
  • Basic knowledge of MS-Office is desirable for some posts

Project Assistant:

  • You need a Bachelor's degree in Science (Wildlife Science/Zoology/Ecology/Marine Sciences/Environmental Sciences/Geoinformatics/Life Sciences) or a Bachelor's in Social Science (Geography/Statistics/Economics/Public Administration/Social Work), depending on the project

Project Associate-I:

  • You need a Four-Year Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Natural Sciences (Wildlife Science/Zoology/Ecology/Marine Biology/Environmental Sciences/Geoinformatics/Life Sciences/Agricultural or Forestry Sciences), or a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science

Project Associate-II:

  • You need a Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Natural Sciences, or a Bachelor's in Veterinary Science, or a Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology (Computer Science/IT/Remote Sensing/GIS/Electrical/Electronics), plus 2 years' experience in R&D at a recognized institution after your degree

Senior Project Associate:

  • You need a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Natural Sciences plus 4 years' experience in R&D at a recognized institution, or a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Wildlife Science/Zoology/Ecology/Life Sciences

You can apply for a maximum of two advertised positions that match your academic qualification, but you must submit a separate application and fee for each.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit is 35 years for Project Associate-I posts under the Nicobar Megapode, World Heritage and Chambal-Tons river projects.
  • The upper age limit is 50 years for Administrative Assistant, Project Assistant, Senior Project Associate, Project Associate-I/II and Scientific Administrative Assistant/Field Worker posts under the other projects.
  • Age Relaxation: Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes get up to 5 years' relaxation; Other Backward Classes (OBC) get up to 3 years' relaxation.

Salary

  • Monthly pay ranges from Rs. 24,000 to Rs. 57,000 plus House Rent Allowance (HRA), depending on the post and project.
  • Project Associate and Senior Project Associate posts pay a higher amount to NET or GATE qualified candidates compared to non-NET/GATE candidates.
  • These are consolidated, project-linked pay packages — not regular government pay scales.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

WII will select candidates in these steps:

  1. Screening: Your application is screened based on percentage marks in your Bachelor's/Master's degree, specialization relevant to the project, research experience and publications.
  2. Shortlisting: The top 10 scoring candidates for each advertised position are shortlisted for an interview.
  3. Online Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for an online interview conducted by a Selection Committee.
  4. Document Verification: Selected candidates must produce all original certificates at the time of joining.

Meeting the minimum qualification and experience criteria does not automatically guarantee you an interview call.

Responsibilities

  • Collect field data on wildlife species, habitats and ecosystems as per the assigned project
  • Assist in sample collection, cataloguing and laboratory analysis of ecological data
  • Support GIS mapping, remote sensing analysis and database management for the project
  • Conduct field surveys and monitor wildlife movement, population and habitat use
  • Maintain accurate project records, data sheets and equipment logs
  • Help prepare project reports, presentations and scientific publications
  • Coordinate with local communities, forest staff and project investigators during fieldwork
  • Handle administrative and documentation tasks related to the research project

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Graduation in any discipline (minimum for Administrative/Field posts); Bachelor's or Master's degree in Natural Sciences, Veterinary Science, Engineering or Social Science required for research posts, depending on the project

Preferred Qualification

NET/GATE qualification, prior field research experience, and research publications are preferred for Project Associate and Senior Project Associate posts

Required Skills

Willingness to undertake arduous fieldwork in remote locations with limited logistics; basic MS-Office knowledge for administrative posts

Age Limit

18 - 50 years

Age Relaxation:
