The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released an official notification for the Civil Services Examination 2026. This is one of the most prestigious examinations in India, conducted annually to recruit officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and other Central Group A and Group B Services.
About UPSC Civil Services Examination
The Civil Services Examination is conducted in three stages - Preliminary Examination (objective type), Main Examination (written descriptive type), and Personality Test (Interview). Successful candidates are appointed to various services based on their rank and preferences.

Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold a Bachelors degree from a recognized university in any discipline. Candidates appearing in final year examination can also apply provisionally.

- General category: 21 to 32 years
- SC/ST category: 21 to 37 years (5 years relaxation)
- OBC category: 21 to 35 years (3 years relaxation)
- PwBD category: 21 to 42 years (10 years relaxation)
Salary and Benefits
- Starting basic pay: Rs. 56,100 per month (Pay Level 10)
- In-hand salary: Approximately Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 per month

Selection Process
- Preliminary Examination (Qualifying): 400 marks total
- Main Examination: 1,750 marks total (9 papers)
- Personality Test (Interview): 275 marks
Total merit: Main Examination (1,750) + Interview (275) = 2,025 marks

- SC/ST/Female/PwBD: No fee (exempted)
