The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Advertisement No. 05/2026 inviting online applications for 91 vacancies across 9 different posts in central government ministries. Who Can Apply?

Airworthiness Officer (25 posts, Level 10)

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or Mathematics, OR Aircraft Maintenance, OR Engineering Degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunication
  • Valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License in Category B1 or B2 from DGCA (not needed if you hold an Aeronautical Engineering Degree)
  • Minimum 3 years of Aircraft Maintenance experience on an operating aircraft in a DGCA-approved organisation

Deputy Controller of Explosive (44 posts, Level 10)

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or Technology, OR Master's Degree in Chemistry
  • 3 years of experience in Chemical works, manufacture of explosives, compressed gases, or refining of Petroleum

Manager, Mail Motor Service (8 posts, Level 10)

  • B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering
  • 3 years experience in operation of Motor Transport Traffic in a Government/Semi-Govt/PSU or listed Commercial Organisation

Junior Technical Officer, Sugar & Vegetable Oils (5 posts, Level 7)

  • B.Tech or B.E. in Oil Technology, OR B.Sc. with PG Diploma in Sugar Technology
  • 1 year experience in Sugar Technology or Edible Oils

Deputy Superintending Archaeological Engineer (4 posts, Level 10)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 3 years experience in planning and execution of civil engineering works in Government Sector or any Archaeological/heritage site

Scientific Officer Mechanical (2 posts, Level 8)

Salary

  • Level 7 (JTO Sugar & Veg Oils): Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 per month
  • Level 8 (Scientific Officer Mechanical): Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100 per month
  • Level 10 (Airworthiness Officer, Dy Controller Explosive, Manager MMS, Dy Supdt Arch Engineer, JTO Chem Eng): Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month
  • Academic Level 13A1 (Associate Professor CME Pune): Rs. 1,31,400 to Rs. 2,17,100 per month
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules

Selection Process

UPSC follows a recruitment-by-selection process for these Group A/B Gazetted posts:

  1. Online Recruitment Application (ORA): Submit your application on the UPSC online portal with all educational and experience details.
  2. Screening of Applications: UPSC scrutinises applications and shortlists eligible candidates based on qualification, experience and other criteria.
  3. Recruitment Test (RT): UPSC may conduct a screening test if the number of applicants is large.
  4. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for personality test and interview by the Commission.
  5. Document Verification & Medical Test: Final selected candidates must produce original documents and pass a medical fitness test.

For Airworthiness Officer, candidates will undergo 2 years probation with mandatory induction training. For Dy Controller of Explosive and Associate Professor posts, probation is also 2 years; for JTO Chemical Engineering and Manager MMS, probation is 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Handle review of aircraft registration, fly permits and licensing for DGCA (Airworthiness Officer)
  • Administer the Explosives Act, Petroleum Act and grant licences under various safety rules (Dy Controller Explosive)
  • Manage purchase, supervision, condemnation and verification of motor vehicles in postal department (Manager MMS)
  • Examine plant code applications for new sugar factories and review edible oil import-export policy (JTO Sugar)
  • Assist in framing conservation programmes and inspecting civil engineering works at heritage sites (Dy Supdt Archaeological Engineer)
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of laboratory samples and develop new testing methods (Scientific Officer Mechanical)
  • Teach Electrical or Mechanical Engineering subjects at the College of Military Engineering, Pune (Associate Professor)
  • Investigate violations of national air law, examine explosives and conduct accident investigations as per assigned post

Doctorate Degree or higher experience in the relevant field
