Who Can Apply?

Marine, Mechanical or Electrical Engineers

• Qualification: You should be a Marine, Mechanical or Electrical Engineer.
• Certificate: You need a minimum First or Second Class Motor/Steam MOT Certificate issued by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India, or an equivalent certificate recognised by the Government of India.
• Experience: You need at least 5 years of sailing experience after the first Certificate of Competency.
• Management-level experience: Out of the above experience, at least 2 years should be at management level.

Naval Architecture Degree Holders

• Qualification: You need a basic degree in Naval Architecture.
• Certificate: You should hold a First Class Certificate.
• Experience: You need at least 7 years of experience on sea-going regular vessels, classification societies, ship building yards, reputed international shipping corporations, or a state port department.

Master Mariners

• Qualification: You should be a Master Mariner.
• Certificate: You need a Certificate of Competency as Master issued by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India, or an equivalent international certificate.
• Experience: You need 2 years of sailing experience after getting the Master certificate.
• Extra work exposure: Experience in maritime training or maritime survey is also required as mentioned in the notice.

Salary and Survey Fee

• The notice states that the department will not pay any salary, honorarium, allowance or other financial benefit.
• The survey fee for survey work will be paid directly by the boat or vessel owner to the surveyor.
• The department may set the maximum limit of the survey fee as needed.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Important Conditions

• Empanelment does not guarantee regular work or any specific assignment.
• The department can allot survey work to any empanelled surveyor when required.
• The department can cancel or suspend empanelment without giving a reason.
• If wrong information or fake documents are found, the application can be rejected.
• Survey reports must be impartial, factual and technically correct.
• The surveyor must follow the Inland Vessels Act, 2021, related rules and departmental instructions.
• If there is any conflict of interest, the surveyor must not conduct that survey.
