RGU Research Associate Tribal Studies Recruitment 2026: Overview

Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) is engaging a Research Associate through its Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies for a defence-funded study of borderland communities in Arunachal Pradesh. The work belongs to the project Ethnographic Profile of the Borderland Communities with Special Reference to Idu, Kaman, and Taraon Mishmis of Arunachal Pradesh: A Socio-Psychological and Cultural Study. This is a field-focused research role, so it suits someone comfortable working with communities as well as organising material for academic analysis.

The project is supported by the Life Sciences and Research Board under DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Your field base will extend beyond the university campus into Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Anjaw. The role brings together interviews, observation, audiovisual records and written analysis, with the aim of building a careful account of the selected Mishmi communities.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Nature of engagement: The appointment is purely temporary and tied to the research project; it does not create a claim to a regular university post.
  • Initial tenure: The engagement is for twelve months and may be renewed only when your performance and the project position support an extension.
  • Project closure: The post is co-terminus with the project. If the funding body closes the project, the university has no continuing employment liability.
  • Field posting: You should be ready for sustained travel and research activity across the named districts rather than campus-only work.
  • Research profile: Prior field-study exposure is desirable, while current PhD enrolment in Tribal Studies can strengthen your fit for the assignment.

Application Submission Notes

This recruitment uses a walk-in interview at the Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh. Report at 10:30 am on 7 September 2026 and use the direct notification for any application-format or document instructions issued by the university.

Because the assignment combines community fieldwork and academic reporting, your application should make your Tribal Studies background, UGC NET status and field-research experience easy to identify. Keep the information accurate and arrange your supporting records so the interview team can check your academic and research profile without delay.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field research across the assigned districts of Arunachal Pradesh
  • Collect socio-psychological, cultural and ethnographic data from the study communities
  • Compile field notes and research material in an organised format
