PSOU Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (PSOU), Patiala, the state open university set up under Punjab Act No. 19 of 2019, has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 for a mix of teaching and non-teaching posts. On the teaching side, the university wants Assistant Professors in History and Public Administration. The rest of the openings cover university administration, IT support and legal work. Most posts are regular appointments with probation, while the Law Researcher post is purely on contract. Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Professor (History and Public Administration): teaching posts filled under the UGC Regulations 2018; both are open to the General category.
• Assistant Registrar: a senior administrative post reserved for an SC candidate. Long-serving university staff who have worked as Superintendent or Personal Assistant can also qualify through the experience route.
• Superintendent: an office supervision post split between the General and SC categories; working Superintendents and deputationists can apply.
• System Administrator: the university's senior IT infrastructure post, open to the General category.
• Programmer: a software and server post reserved for an SC candidate.
• Senior Assistant: an experienced clerical post; one seat is earmarked for a woman from the General category.
• Law Researcher (On Contract): a legal support post for advocates enrolled with a Bar Council.

Post-wise Duties

System Administrator

The notice's wish-list shows what the job involves: you would look after Windows and Linux servers, keep switches, routers, firewalls and enterprise Wi-Fi running, and manage VPNs, network monitoring and intrusion detection across the campus.

Programmer

You would build and maintain web applications in languages such as Java, .NET, PHP or Python, work with databases like MySQL and Postgres, and keep services such as LDAP, Apache, Tomcat and mail running, along with cloud and data-centre tasks.

Senior Assistant

This is office work where speed matters: you must type in both Punjabi (Unicode Raavi font) and English, and you need hands-on experience with office productivity or desktop publishing software.

Law Researcher

You would support the university on legal matters with good drafting skills. The preferred areas are university and service law, writs, civil matters, contracts, disciplinary cases, RTI, arbitration and constitutional law.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Probation: Regular appointments carry a three-year probation under Punjab Government Notification G.S.R.56/Const./Art.309/Amd.(18)/2016 dated 05-09-2016.
• Deputation: The university may also appoint people on deputation from State or Central Government institutions and universities.
• Punjabi language: Punjabi passed up to Matric standard is essential for every post.
• Punjab domicile: Reserved-category candidates must upload a Punjab State Domicile or Residence Certificate; SC/ST and PWD candidates from outside Punjab pay the General category fee.
• Academic score: For Assistant Professor, the UGC academic score is used only to shortlist candidates; final selection depends on the interview alone. The scores you enter online cannot be changed later.
• Employed candidates: If you already work somewhere, apply through proper channel and bring an NOC from your employer to the interview.
• Number of posts: The university can increase or reduce the number of posts, or leave them unfilled.
• Legal disputes: Any dispute falls under the courts and tribunals of Patiala.
