OSSSC Nursing Officer Recruitment 2026 - 5989 Posts
Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) has released Advertisement No. IIE-54/2026-1962/OSSSC dated 12 June 2026 for District Cadre Group-C Nursing Officer posts. These posts are available across all 30 district establishments under the Health & Family Welfare Department. The appointment is district cadre, which means selected candidates will normally be posted and transferred within the allocated district.
Vacancy Breakdown
- Total Nursing Officer posts: 5,989
- UR: 1,880 posts, including 941 posts for women
- ST: 1,057 posts, including 531 posts for women
- SC: 645 posts, including 326 posts for women
- SEBC: 406 posts, including 203 posts for women
- Ex-servicemen reservation: 180 posts included in the total
- Sportsperson reservation: 60 posts included in the total
- PwD special category reservation: 300 posts across VI, HI, OI and MD categories, included in the total
District-wise posting: The notification gives district-wise vacancies for all 30 districts of Odisha. You need to give your district choices in the online form, but the final district allocation will depend on merit, vacancy and preference.
Who Can Apply?
Education and Nursing Registration
- Qualification: You must have passed +2 in the 10+2 system or an equivalent examination.
- Nursing qualification: You must have Diploma in GNM or B.Sc Nursing from a Medical College/Hospital of Odisha or another institution recognised and approved by the Indian Nursing Council.
- Registration: You must have valid Nursing Council registration or renewal certificate as on the date of submitting the online application.
Odia Language Requirement
- Language: You must be able to speak, read and write Odia.
- Odia proof: You should have passed Odia in Middle School, Matriculation, Class VII or above, or passed the Odia test conducted by the School & Mass Education Department.
Age Limit
- You should be at least 21 years old as on 12 June 2026.
- Maximum age is 42 years as on 12 June 2026.
- SC/ST/SEBC/Women: Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years.
- PwD: Upper age limit is relaxed by 10 years.
- Ex-servicemen: Relaxation is equal to the period of defence service rendered, as per rules.
- Contractual Nursing Officers under OSH&FW Society/Scheme and ASHAs: Upper age limit is 45 years as on the advertisement date, if otherwise eligible.
Salary
- Selected Nursing Officers will get pay scale of Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300 per month.
- The pay is under Pay Matrix Level-8, Cell-01 as per ORSP Rules, 2017.
- You will also get allowances and benefits as per Odisha Government rules.
Application Fee
- Applicants other than SC, ST and PwD categories: Rs. 500
- SC, ST and PwD candidates: No examination fee
- Payment mode: Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI through the online payment gateway.
- Refund note: The Rs. 500 fee will be refunded to applicants who actually appear in the examination.
Selection Process
The selection will be done through a written test and verification stages:
- Written Test: One MCQ paper for 100 marks in OMR/CBRE mode. The exact mode will be notified later.
- Provisional Master Merit List: Merit will be prepared from written test marks or normalised score.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called in category/special-category order. The number called will not be less than 1.25 times the advertised vacancies.
- District Allocation: Allocation will be based on merit, available vacancy and district preference. OSSSC may allow preference revision or physical counselling if required.
- Final Select List: Provisional select lists will be prepared separately for each district after verification.

Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients in the assigned district health facility
- Assist doctors during treatment, procedures and emergency care
- Keep patient records, medicine records and nursing registers updated
- Support immunisation, maternal health and public health activities as assigned
- Monitor patient condition and report important changes to medical officers
- Educate patients and families about medicines, treatment and basic health practices
- Follow hospital hygiene, infection control and Odisha Government health rules

Exam Pattern
The OSSSC Nursing Officer written test will have 100 questions for 100 marks. You will get 2 hours to complete one MCQ paper in OMR/CBRE mode.
Subject-wise Breakdown
- Nursing syllabus from Annexure-II: 60 questions for 60 marks
- Practical skills: 25 questions for 25 marks
- Arithmetic (HSC standard): 10 questions for 10 marks
- English (HSC standard): 5 questions for 5 marks
Negative Marking: 0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. If you choose more than one option, it will be treated as a wrong answer.
Qualifying Marks: ST, SC, PwD, Ex-servicemen and Sportsperson candidates need 30%. Other candidates need 35%.
