National Law University Meghalaya (NLU Meghalaya) is hiring 1 Research Consultant (Part-time) for its WATCON research project in Shillong. National Law University Meghalaya (NLU Meghalaya) Research Consultant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
NLU Meghalaya has released Advertisement No. NLUM/PROJ/WATCON/235/2025/1158 dated 7 July 2026 to engage 1 Research Consultant for the project "Addressing the Multi-scalar Dimensions of Sectoral Water Conflicts Through the Lens of Water Security (WATCON)". You will work on a specific case study, support background research and data collection, and help organize project events. The engagement is for six months with a possibility of renewal, making this a good short-term research opportunity if you have a background in law, environment, or social sciences.
Who Can Apply?
For Law Graduates:
- LLM or PhD degree in Law with a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) in the qualifying exam.
For Social Science Graduates:
- Master's degree or PhD in any social science discipline (Anthropology, Geography, Sociology, or interdisciplinary fields like Development Studies, Cultural Studies, Public Policy, Human Rights, etc.) with a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
- Experience: You should have work experience (policy, research, etc.) in natural resources, environment, or water, along with familiarity with water law, policy and governance.
- Skills: You need good English proficiency and MS Office skills. Knowing Khasi, Pnar, Garo or other North-East languages is a plus, though not compulsory.
Salary
- You will get a fellowship of Rs. 35,000 per month for a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
- This is a part-time, project-funded engagement, so the pay does not follow the regular government pay matrix.
Selection Process
The selection will be done as follows:
- Application Screening: The Selection Committee reviews all applications against the eligibility criteria. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee shortlisting.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates are informed by email and interviewed via video conference or in person (date and mode to be notified later).
The Selection Committee has the right to relax any of the above criteria for suitable candidates, and its decision is final.

Responsibilities
- Work on the specific case study allocated under the WATCON project
- Build a research database and conduct literature review on sectoral water conflicts
- Analyze water security and water conflict-related issues in depth
- Carry out fieldwork for the assigned case study
- Organize project-related events and workshops
- Collate, analyze and publish research findings
- Handle filing, documentation and other administrative tasks for the project
