NIT Sikkim Faculty Recruitment 2026 -- 30 Posts

NIT Sikkim, one among the 31 NITs established by the Government of India under the Act of Parliament, is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education. The institute is located in Ravangla, South Sikkim and offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences. This recruitment drive covers three advertisement numbers: NITS/Rect/Fac/2026/01, 02, and 03, dated 08 April 2026. NIT Sikkim is looking for qualified faculty who are passionate about teaching, research, and institutional development.

Vacancy Breakdown

Departments: Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics.

Note: NIT Sikkim has a flexible four-tier cadre structure. The number of vacancies may be increased or decreased by the Higher Authority. PwD reservation is applicable as per Government of India norms.

Who Can Apply?

For Engineering Disciplines

• Ph.D. in the relevant or equivalent discipline from a UGC/AICTE/AIU/CFTI recognised institute
• You must have first class in the preceding degrees -- B.Tech./B.E. and M.Tech./M.E. in a relevant specialisation
• If you have a Ph.D. directly after B.E./B.Tech., you must have first class at the Bachelor's level

For Basic Sciences (Mathematics)

• Ph.D. in the relevant or equivalent discipline from a recognised institute
• You must have first class in the preceding degrees -- B.Sc. (or equivalent) and M.Sc. (or equivalent) in the relevant discipline

All degrees must be from an Institute/University recognised by UGC/AICTE/AIU/CFTI. Qualifications, experience, and credit point criteria are as per Schedule 'E' of the NIT Statute (Gazette of India, 24 July 2017) and subsequent clarifications from the Ministry of Education.

Important: To avoid in-breeding, candidates who got their Ph.D. from NIT Sikkim will not be considered for recruitment, unless there is a gap of at least 3 years between Ph.D. award and the last date of application.

Age Limit

• There is no specific upper age limit mentioned for faculty positions at NITs
• Age, qualifications, experience, and credit points will be considered as on the closing date of application (22 May 2026)
• Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates as per Government of India norms

Salary

• Assistant Professor Grade-II (Contract): Pay Level-10 in 7th CPC -- Entry basic pay Rs. 57,700 per month (AGP Rs. 6,000)
• Assistant Professor Grade-I: Pay Level-12 in 7th CPC -- Entry basic pay Rs. 1,01,500 per month (AGP Rs. 8,000)
• Associate Professor: Pay Level-13A2 in 7th CPC -- Entry basic pay Rs. 1,39,600 per month (AGP Rs. 9,500)
• Professor: Pay Level-14A in 7th CPC -- Entry basic pay Rs. 1,59,100 per month, maximum Rs. 2,20,200 per month (AGP Rs. 10,500)
• In addition to basic pay, you will get Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other allowances as per Central Government rules
• Experienced and meritorious candidates may be offered a higher starting pay on the recommendation of the Selection Committee

Application Fee

• Women / SC / ST / PwD: Rs. 750

• The fee is non-refundable. Payment receipt must be enclosed with the filled application form

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Scrutiny of Applications: Your application will be checked for eligibility as per the NIT Statutes and Gazette notification
2. Shortlisting: Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their credit point score and research/academic performance. The institute may set higher norms than the minimum prescribed criteria for shortlisting
3. Written Examination and/or Presentation: Shortlisted candidates may be called for a written test covering UG, PG, and Ph.D. level courses of UGC/AICTE approved institutes. A presentation may also be required
4. Interview: Final shortlisted candidates will appear before the Selection Committee for an interview
5. Document Verification: All original documents and photo ID proof (Passport/Voter ID/PAN/Aadhar) must be produced at the time of presentation and interview

Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications and credit points does not guarantee a call for the written test, presentation, or interview. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the written test/presentation/interview.

2. Go to the Job Opportunities page and download the application form, credit sheet proforma, and other required documents
3. Fill the "Candidate Summary" form online on the NIT Sikkim website -- this is mandatory
4. Fill the application form (Part A and B) using a word processor and take a printout
5. Pay the application fee online through the payment gateway on the NIT Sikkim website
6. Attach all self-attested enclosures -- educational certificates, experience certificates, category certificates, credit point documents, and the payment receipt
7. Send the sealed envelope containing (a) hard copies of the filled and signed application forms and (b) a signed copy of the downloaded Candidate Summary to:
