National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur) Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIT Raipur, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow post under a project titled "Investigating the Linkages Among Land Subsidence, Hydrological, Anthropogenic, and Other Contributing Factors in Joshimath", sponsored by the Ministry of Jal Shakti's Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD&GR). This project studies what causes land subsidence events like the one seen in Joshimath, Uttarakhand, and the position sits in the Department of Civil Engineering under Principal Investigator Dr. Chandan Kumar Singh (Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering), with Co-Investigators Dr. D. C. Jhariya (Applied Geology), Dr. Sandeep Kumar Chouksey (Civil Engineering), and Dr. Mridu Sahu (Information Technology). This is a purely temporary position for 11 months from your date of joining, subject to quarterly review and satisfactory performance, and it can be a good stepping stone if you want to build a research career in hydrology, geotechnical studies, or remote sensing and GIS. Since this is a project-funded fellowship rather than a permanent Institute post, you will work closely under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and the wider project team through the entire duration of the assignment.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: M.Tech (or an equivalent degree) in Water Resources Engineering & Management, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geomatics, or Remote Sensing & GIS
  • Nationality: You must be an Indian citizen
  • Good to have: A background in land subsidence studies, hydrology, or GIS-based analysis will help, since the project works directly on these topics
  • Good to have: Familiarity with remote sensing software, hydrological modelling tools, or geotechnical data analysis will strengthen your candidature, along with a GATE/NET score if you have one

Age Limit

  • The notification does not fix a specific age limit for this post — age norms follow Government of India rules.
  • Age Relaxation: SC, ST, OBC, Women, and PWD candidates get relaxation in age (and in qualification, where applicable) as per Government of India rules.

Salary

  • You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month plus 20% HRA, which comes to around Rs. 44,400 per month in total.
  • This is a project-linked research stipend, not a regular government pay-scale post, and it is paid out of the MoWR, RD&GR project grant.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

NIT Raipur will select the JRF directly through an interview — there is no written test for this post.

  1. Screening of Applications: The Institute can restrict the number of candidates called for interview based on screening, and no one will be recruited if a suitable candidate is not found.
  2. Interview: Tentatively scheduled for 17 July 2026 at 10:30 AM, held in both online and offline mode at the Civil Engineering Department, NIT Raipur. Candidates joining online can use the Google Meet link shared in the advertisement.
  3. Document Verification: Bring your original documents plus one set of self-attested photocopies to the interview for verification.

If you are currently employed and get selected, you will need to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer at the time of the interview before you can be considered further.
