National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) has released an advertisement (Advt. No. NITMGH/ES/ESRO/ECE/179/2026-27/590 dated 10 July 2026) for 1 Junior Research Fellow post under the ISRO-RESPOND scheme. The project is titled "IRS Assisted Drones-based Communication for Remote Area Connectivity" and is sponsored by ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India. The project is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Satyendra Singh Yadav, along with Co-Investigators Dr. Abhishek Sarkhel (NIT Meghalaya) and Dr. Chirag Gupta (NESAC Meghalaya). The research work focuses on building Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) assisted drone communication systems that can extend network connectivity to remote and hard-to-reach areas of the country. The selected candidate also becomes eligible to pursue a PhD at NIT Meghalaya under the institute's rules, though they need to formally apply for the PhD position separately once that advertisement opens. This is a great opportunity for electronics and communication engineering graduates who want hands-on research experience in a nationally sponsored space-technology project.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need an M.Tech / M.E. in RF and Microwave or Wireless Communication Engineering or a related discipline.
• Alternate Qualification: An M.Sc. with a valid GATE/NET score is also accepted.
• Alternate Qualification: GATE-qualified candidates with a B.Tech / B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering or a related discipline can also apply.
• Your educational qualification must be from a government-approved, reputed institute.

Since this is a research position, candidates with a background in RF/microwave systems, wireless communication, antenna design, or drone/UAV technology will find the work especially relevant. You do not need prior work experience to apply, but a strong academic record in your qualifying degree helps during shortlisting.

Age Limit

• You should be under 30 years old.
• Age Relaxation: Available as per NIT Meghalaya's institute norms and guidelines.

Salary

• You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month, as sanctioned by ISRO.
• You will also get hostel accommodation, or 10% HRA in lieu of hostel, as per institute norms.

The fellowship duration is three years, or till the closure of the project, whichever is earlier. Your performance will be reviewed and evaluated at the end of each year to decide continuation.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on merit and the project's requirements after their documents are examined. Just meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend an interview, conducted online or offline. You will be informed about the interview only through email — no other mode of communication will be used.

No TA/DA will be paid to candidates for attending the interview. Being absent for the interview means you will not be considered for selection.
