About This Job
NIOT Chennai is hiring 30 Apprentice Trainees for one year of training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961. If you have a Diploma in Engineering, a B.E./B.Tech, a B.Sc, a BCA, or a B.Com from an AICTE/DOTE/UGC approved institution, you can attend the walk-in interview. The walk-in date is 10 June 2026 (Wednesday) from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Stipend ranges from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 13,000 per month.

National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has released Advertisement No. NIOT/E&P/03/2026 (Apprenticeship) for 30 Apprentice positions in Chennai and Andhra Pradesh field units. The recruitment covers 8 Technician (Diploma) Apprentices and 22 Graduate (Degree) Apprentices across engineering, science, computer, and commerce disciplines. This is a walk-in interview — no online or offline application. Freshers who passed within the last 5 years are welcome to apply.

Technician (Diploma) Apprentices — 8 Posts
- Mechanical Engineering: 3 posts (Diploma in Mechanical Engineering)
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering: 3 posts (Diploma in EEE)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering: 2 posts (Diploma in ECE)
Graduate (Degree) Apprentices — 22 Posts
- Mechanical Engineering: 3 posts (B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical)
- Civil Engineering: 2 posts (B.E./B.Tech in Civil)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering: 3 posts (B.E./B.Tech in ECE)
- Chemistry / Biology / Physics / Biotechnology / Marine Biology: 14 posts combined with the next two groups (B.Sc in Chemistry/Biology/Physics or B.Tech in Biotechnology/Marine Biology)
- Computer Science / Computer Applications: Included in the 14 posts (B.Sc CS, B.E./B.Tech CSE, or BCA)
- Commerce, Accounting & Finance: Included in the 14 posts (B.Com or Accounting & Finance graduates)
Note: Disciplines 4, 5, and 6 in the Graduate category share a combined pool of 14 vacancies. If seats in any trade remain unfilled, they may be diverted to other trades.
Who Can Apply?
For Technician (Diploma) Apprentices:
- You must have a full-time Diploma in Engineering/Technology from a State Council or Board of Technical Education, university, or an AICTE/DOTE approved institution in the relevant discipline.
For Graduate (Degree) Apprentices:
- You must have a full-time graduate degree (B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc/B.Com/BCA) from an AICTE/UGC recognised university or institution in the relevant discipline.
Common Conditions:
- You must have passed within the last 5 years from the date of interview.
- You must register on the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) and quote your enrolment number on the application.
- You should not have completed or be undergoing NATS 2.0 Apprenticeship in the same qualification.
- You should not have one year or more of job experience.
- Post Graduates (including integrated PG) are not eligible.
Age Limit
- Technician / Diploma: 18 to 24 years as on date of interview.
- Graduate / Degree: 21 to 26 years as on date of interview.
- Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer).
- PwBD: 10 years relaxation (15 years for SC/ST PwBD, 13 years for OBC-NCL PwBD).
Salary (Monthly Stipend)
- Technician (Diploma) Apprentices: Rs. 12,000 per month (of which Rs. 4,000 is paid by Government under DBT Scheme).
- Graduate (Degree) Apprentices: Rs. 13,000 per month (of which Rs. 4,500 is paid by Government under DBT Scheme).
- Training duration is 1 year for all positions.
- Note: There is no obligation to offer employment after the apprenticeship period.
Selection Process
Selection is based on a walk-in interview only. There is no written exam.
- NATS Registration: Register online at nats.education.gov.in under your respective state and discipline.
- Document Submission: Bring all original certificates and self-attested photocopies to the walk-in venue.
- Walk-in Interview: If too many candidates apply, the Selection Committee will shortlist in proportion to available vacancies.
- Document Verification: Originals will be checked at the time of interview.

Responsibilities
- Undergo structured apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, at NIOT Chennai or field units
- Work on ocean technology research, instrumentation, and engineering projects assigned by the mentor
- Assist senior scientists and engineers in laboratory experiments, field tests, and data analysis
- Maintain training logbooks and submit periodic progress reports
- Follow safety protocols, lab guidelines, and discipline norms of the institute
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and on-the-job training sessions
- Complete the assigned training schedule within the one-year apprenticeship period
