NIMHANS Bengaluru is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) on a contract basis in its Department of Neuroimaging & Interventional Radiology (NIIR). NIMHANS JRF Neuroimaging Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, has announced a vacancy for a Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Neuroimaging & Interventional Radiology (NIIR). The post is on a contract basis under an ANRF (Anusandhan National Research Foundation)-funded research project supervised by Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Additional Professor of Radiochemistry at NIMHANS. This is an excellent opportunity for science and engineering graduates looking to work in cutting-edge neuroimaging research at one of India's top mental health and neuroscience institutes. Selection is through an interview only — there is no written exam.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: BE/B.Tech, ME/M.Tech, or M.Sc from a recognised university in a relevant field (such as Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related science/engineering discipline applicable to neuroimaging research).
  • Experience: Prior research experience or interest in neuroimaging, radiochemistry, or PET imaging will be an advantage.
  • Other: Candidates currently engaged in other projects at NIMHANS must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Principal Investigator.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 35 years as on 17 April 2026.
  • Age relaxation as per NIMHANS/government norms for reserved categories.

Salary

  • Monthly stipend: Rs. 37,000 per month (as per ANRF/DST fellowship norms for JRF, revised 2023).
  • HRA (House Rent Allowance) may be applicable as per project/institute norms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in neuroimaging research experiments and data collection under the ANRF-funded project
  • Handle laboratory work related to radiochemistry, PET tracer synthesis, or neuroimaging data analysis
  • Prepare research samples, maintain laboratory records, and document experimental results
  • Operate and maintain neuroimaging equipment and related instrumentation under supervision
  • Analyse imaging data using relevant software tools and contribute to research findings
  • Support the preparation of research reports, presentations, and publications
  • Follow all safety protocols and institutional guidelines in the laboratory and imaging facility

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

BE/B.Tech, ME/M.Tech, or M.Sc in a relevant field from a recognised university

Preferred Qualification

Experience in neuroimaging, radiochemistry, or PET imaging

Required Skills

Research aptitude; knowledge of neuroimaging or radiochemistry preferred

Age Limit

18 - 35 years (as on 17 Apr 2026)

  • SC/ST/OBC/PwBD: As per NIMHANS/government norms

Salary & Compensation

Pay Scale

Rs. 37,000/month (ANRF/DST JRF stipend as per DST revised norms 2023)

Exam Pattern

There is no written exam for this position. Selection is purely based on an interview.

  • Stage 1 – Application Shortlisting: Applications are screened based on academic qualifications and relevance to the research project.
  • Stage 2 – Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview at NIMHANS, Bengaluru.

No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview. Candidates from other NIMHANS projects must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their PI.
