NIFT Registrar and Campus Director Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the statutory fashion-education institute under the Ministry of Textiles, is filling its senior administrative posts on deputation: a Registrar, a Director (Head Office) and a Director (Finance and Accounts) in New Delhi, plus Campus Directors for its campuses across the country. These are not open-market jobs — only officers who already hold an analogous post on a regular basis in the Central or State Government, a Union Territory, an autonomous body or a PSU can apply. If you are such an officer and want a three-year stint running a design-education campus or NIFT's central administration, this drive is for you.

NIFT was set up in 1986, became a statutory institute under the NIFT Act 2006 with the President of India as Visitor, and now runs 20 campuses. It also advises the Union and State governments on handloom and handicraft design.

Posts and Disciplines

• Registrar (New Delhi): heads institute administration; you need a background in administration, establishment or academic matters.
• Director (Head Office), New Delhi: for officers with experience in administration, establishment, admissions or academic matters.
• Director (Finance and Accounts), New Delhi: for officers who have handled financial, accounting and audit work.
• Campus Director: runs one NIFT campus. The openings cover Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kolkata, Kannur, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong and Srinagar. You also need at least two years at Director level in the Government of India or an equivalent post.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Deputation is for three years and will not be extended.
• Who cannot apply: Officers already on deputation are not eligible, and ad hoc, contract, part-time or consultant service does not count as experience.
• No reservation: As these are deputation posts, no reservation applies under the DoPT OM dated 28 March 2024.
• Pay on deputation: Your pay is fixed under the DoPT O.M. dated 17.06.2010 on deputation terms.
• Campus choice: Campus Director applicants must give three campus preferences, but NIFT can post you to any campus and transfer you across campuses later.
• Relieving: Your parent office must certify that you will be relieved within one month of the offer, and record vigilance clearance.
• Service rules: Employment is governed by the NIFT Recruitment Rules 2020 and NIFT Statutes 2020.
• Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the selection process.

Use the Annexure-I bio-data proforma with a Statement of Purpose of up to 1,000 words, and get each page of the attached APARs attested by an officer of at least Under Secretary rank.

An advance copy sent directly is accepted only provisionally — the forwarded copy with all certificates must reach NIFT before the interview. Fill a separate application for each post you want. Interview dates and mode (offline or online) are sent by email to shortlisted officers only.
