NCBS Facility Assistant EM Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS-TIFR) is adding a Facility Assistant (Electron Microscopy) to its specialist research infrastructure in Bengaluru. The Electron Microscopy Facility supports life-science work that depends on careful specimen preparation, dependable imaging and well-maintained instruments, serving institute researchers as well as academic and industry users from outside NCBS. This is a hands-on fixed-term role for someone who can move comfortably between laboratory technique, instrument care, image work and user support. A life-science postgraduate with practical microscopy preparation experience will be best placed for the work.

The assistant will work within a facility where sample quality and instrument reliability directly affect research results. The notice places equal weight on technical delivery and the wider running of the facility, including user training, workshops and gradual improvement of its systems. That makes the position broader than routine sample processing: you will also help researchers use the equipment correctly and keep the platform useful to different kinds of projects.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Initial tenure: The appointment starts as a fixed term of one year. Renewal is considered annually and depends on a performance assessment, so the first appointment does not guarantee an extension.
  • Assessment of experience: NCBS will count relevant work gained after the minimum qualifying degree. Its screening committee decides whether your experience matches the advertised area, with particular relevance to life-science specimen preparation.
  • Shortlisting: If many people apply, the institute may use additional screening standards to reduce the pool before the test or interview. Meeting the basic conditions therefore does not by itself guarantee a call.
  • Recruitment flexibility: NCBS may change the number of positions or decide not to appoint anyone if it does not find a suitable match. Canvassing can disqualify an application.
  • Legal jurisdiction: Any dispute connected with this recruitment falls under the courts that have jurisdiction in Bengaluru.
  • Updates: You should monitor the NCBS job portal because later addenda, corrections and recruitment updates will be placed there.

Application Submission Notes

The application is completed through the NCBS online form. Register with a working email address, open the link sent to that address, review the form before saving it, and submit it only after checking every entry. The portal warns that changes are not available after submission; if a fresh submission becomes necessary, you may need to use another email address.

Use Firefox or Chrome on a desktop or laptop and leave the declaration unticked until the final stage. NCBS specifically advises against completing the form on a mobile phone. Your own one-page cover letter should explain your background and why the Electron Microscopy Facility interests you.
