Salary

  • Pay scale: Rs 19,500 — 62,000 (Pay Matrix Level-2 under 7th CPC)
  • During probation (3 years): Stipend at 70% of pay in Year 1, 80% in Year 2, and 90% in Year 3
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other government allowances as approved by the state government from time to time
  • Pension: Defined Contribution Pension Scheme applies for employees joining on or after 01.01.2005

Physical Standards

You must meet these minimum physical requirements. No relaxation is given in physical standards for any category.

Height and Chest (Males Only)

  • General / OBC / EWS: Height — 168 cm, Chest without expansion — 81 cm, Chest with expansion — 86 cm
  • SC / ST / Maratha: Height — 165 cm, Chest without expansion — 79 cm, Chest with expansion — 84 cm
  • Gorkha / Garhwali / Kumaoni: Height — 158 cm, Chest without expansion — 76 cm, Chest with expansion — 81 cm

Other Medical Standards

  • Chest expansion: Minimum 5 cm is mandatory
  • Eyesight: At least 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other (without glasses). Must be able to distinguish primary colours
  • Feet: No knock-knee or flat foot allowed
  • Body: Must not be physically disabled in any way

Selection Process

There is no written exam for this recruitment. Selection is done in 3 stages with a total of 100 marks:

  1. Skill Test (Stage 1 — Qualifying): A screening test where you play one instrument from List 'A' (18 instruments including Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Flute, etc.). This is a pass/fail test — no marks are awarded. You must pass this to move to Stage 2.
  2. Band Playing Test (Stage 2 — 75 marks):
    • Trade Test: 60 marks for playing your List 'A' instrument
    • Bonus marks: Up to 15 marks for playing instruments from List 'B' (Keyboard, Guitar, Violin, Drums, Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium, etc.) — 5 bonus marks per additional instrument, maximum 3 instruments
    • Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR/OBC/EWS, 40% for SC/ST
  3. Interview (Stage 3 — 25 marks): Based on trade knowledge, NCC, sports achievements, personality, and general knowledge. Only candidates who qualify the Band Playing Test are called for interview.

Special priority categories (families of soldiers killed in India-Pakistan conflict, election surplus employees, NCC 'C' certificate holders, candidates from Burma/Sri Lanka) get 5% bonus marks in the Band Playing Test.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in the police band during official ceremonies, parades, Republic Day, Independence Day, and other state functions
  • Practise and maintain proficiency in assigned band instruments on a daily basis
  • Keep all musical instruments clean, tuned, and in good working condition
  • Follow the instructions of the Band Master and senior officers during rehearsals and performances
  • Assist in training junior band members and new recruits in basic music and instrument handling
  • Participate in inter-police band competitions and cultural events representing Madhya Pradesh Police
  • Maintain discipline, physical fitness, and adhere to the police code of conduct at all times
