Madhya Pradesh Police is hiring 679 Constable (Band) posts through the Office of the Inspector General of Police, Visbal (Headquarters), Bhopal. MP Police Constable (Band) Recruitment 2026 — 679 Posts
The Office of the Inspector General of Police, Visbal (Headquarters), Bhopal has released the official notification for 679 Constable (Band) vacancies in Madhya Pradesh Police. Who Can Apply?
For UR / SC / OBC Candidates
- Qualification: 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent from a recognized board
For ST Candidates
- Qualification: Class 8th pass or equivalent
Other Requirements
- Gender: Only male candidates can apply
- Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen
- Domicile: MP domicile required for reservation benefits. Non-MP candidates can only apply under the Unreserved (Open) category with no age relaxation
- Aadhaar registration is mandatory
- Musical skill: You must know how to play at least one instrument from List 'A' (Piccolo, Concert Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Bassoon, Euphonium, Bass Tuba, Bag Pipe, Tenor Drum, Bugle, Side Drum, or Bass Drum)
- Candidates should not have more than 2 living children (born after 26 January 2001)
Age Limit

- Minimum age: 18 years
- UR / EWS / Other State candidates: Maximum 33 years
- SC / ST / OBC (MP domicile): Maximum 38 years
- Government / Corporation / Home Guard employees (MP domicile): Maximum 38 years
- Inter-caste marriage (UR + Reserved, MP domicile): Maximum 38 years
- Vikram Award winners (UR, MP domicile): 33 + 5 = 38 years
- Vikram Award winners (Reserved, MP domicile): 38 + 5 = 43 years
- Ex-Servicemen: Age relaxation equal to military service period (up to 3 years beyond upper limit)
Note: Candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh get no age relaxation — maximum age is strictly 33 years.
Salary
- Pay scale: Rs 19,500 — 62,000 (Pay Matrix Level-2 under 7th CPC)
- During probation (3 years): Stipend at 70% of pay in Year 1, 80% in Year 2, and 90% in Year 3
- Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other government allowances as approved by the state government from time to time
- Pension: Defined Contribution Pension Scheme applies for employees joining on or after 01.01.2005
Physical Standards
You must meet these minimum physical requirements. No relaxation is given in physical standards for any category.
Height and Chest (Males Only)
- General / OBC / EWS: Height — 168 cm, Chest without expansion — 81 cm, Chest with expansion — 86 cm
- SC / ST / Maratha: Height — 165 cm, Chest without expansion — 79 cm, Chest with expansion — 84 cm
- Gorkha / Garhwali / Kumaoni: Height — 158 cm, Chest without expansion — 76 cm, Chest with expansion — 81 cm
Other Medical Standards
- Chest expansion: Minimum 5 cm is mandatory
- Eyesight: At least 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other (without glasses). Must be able to distinguish primary colours
- Feet: No knock-knee or flat foot allowed
- Body: Must not be physically disabled in any way

- SC / ST / OBC / EWS candidates (MP domicile): Rs 250

Selection Process
There is no written exam for this recruitment. Selection is done in 3 stages with a total of 100 marks:
- Skill Test (Stage 1 — Qualifying): A screening test where you play one instrument from List 'A' (18 instruments including Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Flute, etc.). This is a pass/fail test — no marks are awarded. You must pass this to move to Stage 2.
- Band Playing Test (Stage 2 — 75 marks):
- Trade Test: 60 marks for playing your List 'A' instrument
- Bonus marks: Up to 15 marks for playing instruments from List 'B' (Keyboard, Guitar, Violin, Drums, Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium, etc.) — 5 bonus marks per additional instrument, maximum 3 instruments
- Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR/OBC/EWS, 40% for SC/ST
- Interview (Stage 3 — 25 marks): Based on trade knowledge, NCC, sports achievements, personality, and general knowledge. Only candidates who qualify the Band Playing Test are called for interview.
Special priority categories (families of soldiers killed in India-Pakistan conflict, election surplus employees, NCC 'C' certificate holders, candidates from Burma/Sri Lanka) get 5% bonus marks in the Band Playing Test.

Responsibilities
- Perform in the police band during official ceremonies, parades, Republic Day, Independence Day, and other state functions
- Practise and maintain proficiency in assigned band instruments on a daily basis
- Keep all musical instruments clean, tuned, and in good working condition
- Follow the instructions of the Band Master and senior officers during rehearsals and performances
- Assist in training junior band members and new recruits in basic music and instrument handling
- Participate in inter-police band competitions and cultural events representing Madhya Pradesh Police
- Maintain discipline, physical fitness, and adhere to the police code of conduct at all times
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
10+2 (Higher Secondary) from a recognized board for UR/SC/OBC candidates. Class 8th pass for ST candidates.
Preferred Qualification
Knowledge of playing additional instruments from List 'B' (Keyboard, Guitar, Violin, Drums, Indian classical instruments like Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium)

Exam Pattern
There is no written exam for this post. The selection is based on 100 total marks:
- Stage 1 — Skill Test (Qualifying): You play one instrument from List 'A' (18 instruments). This is a pass/fail screening — no marks are given. You must pass to move ahead.
- Stage 2 — Band Playing Test (75 marks):
- Trade Test on List 'A' instrument: 60 marks
- Bonus for List 'B' instruments: Up to 15 marks (5 marks per additional instrument, max 3)
- Minimum qualifying: 50% for UR/OBC/EWS, 40% for SC/ST
- Stage 3 — Interview (25 marks): Based on trade knowledge, NCC, sports, personality, and general knowledge
Shortlisting: Three times the number of vacancies in each vertical category will be called for interview based on Band Playing Test cut-off. Final merit = Band Test marks + Interview marks.
