MERC CGRF Chairperson Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) is choosing Chairpersons for its Consumer Grievance Redressal Forums (CGRFs) at locations spread across Maharashtra. These forums are set up under Section 42(5) of the Electricity Act, 2003 as the place where electricity consumers take their complaints about the company that supplies their power. Most of the seats sit with MSEDCL circles, and the rest serve smaller distribution licensees such as an airport company, SEZs and private estates.

This is an opening for retired professionals. If you are a retired senior judicial officer, a retired civil servant of at least Additional Collector rank, a retired engineering college Principal, a retired Electrical Engineering Professor or a retired senior government electrical engineer, you can apply. The appointment and the way the forum works are governed by the MERC (CGRF and Electricity Ombudsman) Regulations, 2020, as amended in 2024.

• MSEDCL circles: forums at Palghar, Vasai, Pen, Malegaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Satara, Chh. Sambhaji Nagar Rural, Nanded, Hingoli, Beed, Yavatmal, Buldhana, Washim, Nagpur Rural, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Bhandara, Nashik Urban, Rastapeth Urban, Kalyan-1 and Thane Urban.
• Mumbai licensee: the forum of Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd.
• Pune licensees: forums of SEZ Biotech Park-I, Manjari and EON Kharadi Infrastructure Pvt Ltd-I.
• Other distribution licensees: forums of Gigaplex Estate Private Limited, Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd. and Iskandar Power Ltd (formerly Laxmipati Balaji Supply Chain Management Ltd.).
• Seats opening later: Kalyan-1, Thane Urban, Nashik Urban, Rastapeth Urban, Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd and EON Kharadi Infrastructure Pvt Ltd-I fall vacant only in early January 2027, on the dates the notice lists for each forum.

The urban and Mumbai-area forums carry a higher monthly amount than the other locations, so check the location-wise pay before you list your choices.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: a fixed three-year term. The Commission may extend it by up to two more years, within the overall age ceiling set by the regulations.
• Consolidated pay: the monthly amount already covers sitting fees, honorarium, conveyance and telephone charges. There are no separate allowances, and tax is deducted at source.
• Additional charge: if you are asked to run another CGRF as well, you get extra pay plus TA/DA at Chief Engineer level.
• Location choice: you can name up to five preferred locations. The Commission may still place you at any other vacant forum, based on the discussion during the interview or appointment process.
• Language: a working knowledge of Marathi is preferred.
• Interview only if needed: MERC holds an interview only when it is necessary, and meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee selection.
• Background check: the Commission verifies the integrity and background of every applicant. Canvassing disqualifies you, and false details can lead to dismissal even after appointment.

Write "Application for the post of Chairperson, CGRF" on the envelope. Your application must reach the office by 5:00 PM on the closing day. One application covers all your chosen locations, so do not send separate ones. Late, incomplete or other-mode applications are not considered.
