About This Job

Apply for 4 Research Staff posts in LU. Social Science postgraduates eligible. Salary: Rs 20,000-37,000. Last date: 4 Sep 2026.

LU ICSSR Research Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

University of Lucknow (LU) is building a small research team in its Department of Sociology for the Indian Council of Social Science Research-funded major project Alleviating Poverty through Livelihood Grants: A Sociological Study of the Satat Jivikoparjan Yojana. The engagement is tied to this project and brings together desk research, field supervision, primary-data collection and academic writing. The work focuses on Bihar's livelihood-grant programme and its ultra-poor graduation approach, so you should be comfortable connecting field evidence with wider social-science questions.

The notice separates leadership-oriented research work from field investigation. That makes this drive suitable both for someone ready to coordinate a study and for researchers who prefer direct interviews and survey work. Experienced applicants receive preference, while the formal academic and software requirements differ by role and are shown in the eligibility fields on this page.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Research Assistant: the project-level research role, linking field operations with the project directors, data analysis, reports and journal writing.
  • Field Investigator: the field-facing role for surveys, detailed interviews and transcription in the districts selected for the Bihar study.

Post-wise Duties

Research Assistant

You will lead day-to-day research activity, supervise the field investigators and coordinate with the project directors. You will also turn the collected material into project reports and research outputs, including contributions to journal articles.

The role calls for confidence with office and data-analysis tools because the research team must organise evidence, review progress and support interpretation. Your contribution connects field data with the project's academic goals, rather than stopping at data entry or survey administration.

Field Investigator

You will conduct surveys and detailed interviews in the Bihar districts chosen for the study. The post also involves accurate transcription and primary-data collection, so careful listening, clear records and regular coordination with the Research Assistant are central to the work.

Travel and contact with study participants are part of the field character of this position. You should be ready to work across the assigned blocks and use common office tools to organise material collected during visits.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project status: the appointments are purely project-based, and continuation depends on satisfactory performance.
  • No regularisation: empanelment does not create a claim to a regular or further contractual post at the centre after the project assignment ends.
  • Interview expenses: shortlisted applicants called for selection will not receive TA or DA.
  • Final decision: the Selection Committee's decision will be binding for this recruitment.
  • Separate consultant interest: the notice also permits experienced professionals to contact the Project Director about guiding the research team, but it does not specify a vacancy count or terms for that engagement.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are accepted by email only. Send your application with a detailed CV to mohanty_aditya@lkouniv.ac.in, the official University of Lucknow address of the Project Director. The notice does not provide a separate online form or application portal.
