Physical Test (Rural & Urban Non-Technical)
- 1 Mile Run — Male: within 5 min = 20 marks; 5-6 min = 10 marks; above 6 min = disqualified
- 1 Mile Run — Female: within 8 min = 20 marks; 8-10 min = 10 marks; above 10 min = disqualified
- High Jump — Male: 4 ft to 5+ ft (5 to 10 marks). Female: 3 ft to 4+ ft (5 to 10 marks)
- Long Jump — Male: 12 ft to 16+ ft (5 to 10 marks). Female: 9 ft to 13+ ft (5 to 10 marks)
- Shot Put: Male — 16 lb to minimum 16 ft. Female — 10 lb to minimum 10 ft
Physical Test (Urban Technical)
- 1 Mile Run — Male: within 6 min = 20 marks; 6-8 min = 10 marks; above 8 min = disqualified
- 1 Mile Run — Female: within 8 min = 20 marks; 8-12 min = 10 marks; above 12 min = disqualified

Selection Process
Selection is conducted by the Selection Committee as per Home Department Notification No. 5442 dated 20.10.2014:
- Physical Test (Sharirik Janch Pariksha): 1 mile run, high jump, long jump and shot put — marks awarded as per the prescribed scale
- Hindi Writing Ability Test: Qualifying — total 100 marks, pass mark 30. Tested at 7th class level (Rural) and 10th class level (Urban)
- Technical Proficiency Test: For Urban Technical candidates only — qualifying, total 100 marks, pass mark 30
- Merit List Preparation: Based on physical test marks plus bonus marks for sports achievements (National 1st = 6, 2nd = 4, 3rd = 2; State 1st = 3, 2nd = 2, 3rd = 1)
- Government Servants applying as Urban Home Guards (10% reservation): Bonus marks — PG = 10, Graduate = 8, Intermediate = 6, Matric = 4
- Medical Examination and Police Character Verification
- Basic Training: At Jharkhand Grih Raksha Vahini Headquarters, Ranchi. After successful completion, formal enrolment as Home Guard with enrolment certificate.

Responsibilities
- Assist police in maintaining law and order in Ramgarh district
- Help with traffic regulation and crowd control during fairs, festivals and public events
- Support disaster management and emergency response operations during floods and other calamities
- Guard government installations and important locations when deputed
- Patrol assigned beats in rural blocks or urban wards as per duty roster
- Assist civil administration during elections, VIP visits and law-and-order situations
- Participate in basic and refresher training conducted by Jharkhand Grih Raksha Vahini
- Support community policing and maintain good public conduct as a uniformed volunteer
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
7th class pass for Rural Home Guard; 10th class (Matriculation) pass for Urban Home Guard
Preferred Qualification
Higher education qualification with bonus marks for Government servants applying as Urban Home Guards (PG-10, Graduate-8, Intermediate-6, Matric-4)
Required Skills
Physical fitness, Hindi reading and writing ability, technical proficiency for urban technical posts (driving, computer, plumbing, electrical work, etc.)
