ISRO URSC Technician-B Recruitment 2026: Overview

U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), the Bengaluru centre that leads satellite work for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is hiring Technician-B tradesmen and Grade A Light Vehicle, Staff Car and Heavy Vehicle Drivers under Advertisement No. URSC:04:2026. URSC designs, builds and tests the spacecraft behind INSAT, the IRS earth-observation fleet and NavIC, and it worked on missions such as Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1, so even workshop and transport roles here support national space missions. The posts are temporary but likely to continue — the usual government wording for a regular job. This drive suits ITI holders in eight trades and experienced drivers with a valid licence.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Technician-B (Electronics group): the largest trade in this notice, open to ITI holders in Electronics Mechanic, Technician Power Electronic Systems, Mechanic Consumer Electronic Appliances, Instrument Mechanic or Mechanic Industrial Electronics. Some seats are kept for PwBD candidates with visual, orthopaedic and autism-spectrum disabilities, including backlog seats.
  • Technician-B (Fitter): a mechanical workshop post; a seat is earmarked for a hearing-impaired PwBD candidate.
  • Technician-B (Electrician) and Technician-B (Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning): part of these vacancies is for the Master Control Facility (MCF) at Hassan in Karnataka, and the rest are at URSC.
  • Technician-B (Turner, Machinist, Motor Vehicle Mechanic, Electroplater): smaller workshop trades with unreserved or EWS seats only.
  • Light Vehicle Driver-A: for drivers with light-vehicle experience; part of these seats is reserved for ex-servicemen.
  • Staff Car Driver-A: same eligibility as the Light Vehicle Driver post, but these vacancies are identified for the Department of Space (DoS) rather than URSC.
  • Heavy Vehicle Driver-A: needs heavy-vehicle driving experience and a Public Service Badge; some vacancies are for MCF Hassan and many are reserved for ex-servicemen.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Posting: You can be posted to any ISRO or Department of Space centre anywhere in India, even though URSC Bengaluru runs this hiring.
  • Shifts: Appointees must be ready to work in round-the-clock shifts.
  • Pension: You will be covered by the National Pension System / Unified Pension Scheme.
  • Ex-servicemen backlog: Most ex-servicemen seats at URSC are backlog vacancies; if no suitable ex-servicemen are found, they go to candidates of the matching vertical-reservation category.
  • PwBD backlog: If no candidate with the notified disability qualifies, URSC will try candidates with any other benchmark disability first, so all PwBD candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Driving experience rules: Experience counts only after you got a valid licence, part-time driving is ignored, and certificates from private individuals are not accepted.
  • Karnataka transport rules: Drivers must meet any other requirement of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Act within three months of joining, including the Public Service Badge if your home state did not need one.
  • Heavy Vehicle Drivers: You will drive both heavy and light vehicles as needed.
  • Results awaited: Only candidates who have already passed the required exam can apply; students waiting for final results should not.
  • Employed candidates: Apply with your employer's permission and bring the original NOC to the skill test — without it you cannot take the test and no travel allowance is paid.
  • Travel allowance: Outstation candidates called for the skill test get second-class rail or non-AC bus fare by the shortest route, after document verification.
  • Higher qualification: A degree or extra experience gives you no edge over other qualified applicants, and you will be offered only the advertised grade.
  • Exam clash: If you apply for more than one post and the tests clash in the same session, you must pick one.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are accepted only through the online portal linked from the ISRO and URSC websites; paper applications are not considered. If you need to correct something after submitting, you can apply again — the latest application with the fee paid is treated as valid, but avoid filing many applications for the same post.

Hall tickets and call letters come only by email, so check your spam folder too. Candidates registered on the National Career Service (NCS) portal follow the same process through the ISRO careers page. For doubts, write to cbt@ursc.gov.in; phone calls are not entertained.

Exam Pattern

Technician-B

The written test / computer-based test has 80 multiple-choice questions and you get 1.5 hours. Each right answer gives +1 mark and each wrong answer costs 0.33 marks. The syllabus is based on your trade curriculum.

  • Written test pass mark: 32/80 for unreserved candidates, 24/80 for reserved candidates (only where the post is reserved)
  • Shortlisting: 1:5 ratio for the skill test, with at least 10 candidates
  • Skill test: 100 marks, qualifying only; you need 50/100 (unreserved) or 40/100 (reserved)
  • Tie-break: if written and academic scores tie, candidates with a valid NAC score get preference

Light Vehicle Driver-A, Staff Car Driver-A and Heavy Vehicle Driver-A

The written test has 100 multiple-choice questions and you get 120 minutes (2 hours). You earn 1 mark per right answer and lose 0.25 marks per wrong answer.

  • Part A – Motor Vehicles Act, 1988: 50 questions (driver licensing, vehicle registration, control of transport vehicles and traffic, insurance, offences and penalties, mandatory signs, accident claims and tribunals)
  • Part B – Elementary English (Class 8 level): 15 questions (synonyms, antonyms, correct verbs, fill in the blanks)
  • Part C – Elementary Arithmetic (Class 10 level): 15 questions (basic operations, percentage, ratio, average)
  • Part D – General Knowledge: 20 questions (current affairs, who is who, states and capitals, geography of India)

Pass Criteria: You need 50% in Part A and 50% in Parts B, C and D combined; reserved candidates get a 25% relaxation where the post is reserved for them. Total marks across all four parts decide the 1:10 shortlist for the skill test.

Skill Test (Driving): 100 marks, qualifying only; you need 60 marks and no category gets relaxation.

Exam Centres: The written test may be online or offline, in Bengaluru or other cities across India; skill tests are held only in Bengaluru.
