Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a Fortune Global 500 Maharatna PSU, has released Advertisement No. Barauni-BR/HR/APPR/2026-27/I to engage 432 apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 at its Barauni Refinery. The engagement covers 11 trades and disciplines across Trade Apprentice and Technician Apprentice categories. Selection is purely on merit — there is no written exam. Freshers who have passed the required qualification and are not already over-qualified can apply.

The number of seats is tentative and may increase or decrease. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/EWS/PwBD applies as per Government rules.

Who Can Apply?

General Rules

• You must have already passed the prescribed qualification as a regular full-time course in the relevant trade/discipline before the eligibility cut-off date.
• Minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General candidates (45% for SC/ST and PwBD against reserved seats).
• For ITI trades, only NCVET/SCVT recognised regular full-time ITI courses are accepted (pass marks are enough).

Who Cannot Apply

• Candidates holding higher qualifications like BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA are not eligible.
• Candidates who did the qualification through part-time / correspondence / distance education are not eligible.
• Candidates with 1 year or more of job experience after the qualification, or who finished the qualification more than 5 years ago, are not eligible.
• A B.Sc candidate can apply for only one code among 101, 103 or 108. A B.Com candidate can apply for only one code among 108 or 109. Applying for more than one trade leads to rejection.

Age Limit

• You should be between 18 and 24 years old as on 30 June 2026 (for General/EWS candidates).
• Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC(NCL) and 10 years for PwBD candidates, as per Government guidelines.

Salary

• You will get a monthly stipend as prescribed under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 and Apprentices Rules 1992.
• No HRA or company accommodation is provided. Apprentices are covered under Accident Insurance and get leave as per the rules.
• Note: Completing the apprenticeship does not guarantee a job at IOCL.

Application Fee

• No application fee is mentioned in the notification for any category.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is done on merit in the following way:

1. Merit List (No Written Test): Candidates are ranked by percentage of marks in descending order (aggregate of all years/semesters) in the prescribed qualification. Preference is given to first-time apprenticeship applicants. In case of a tie, the older candidate (by date of birth) ranks higher.
2. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates are called with original certificates for verification.
3. Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness: Only candidates declared fit in the medical examination are engaged as apprentices.

How to Apply

1. Register on the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) for codes 101, 102, 103, 108, 109, 110 & 111, or the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) for codes 104, 105, 106 & 107.
2. Search and apply for the Barauni Refinery opportunity and complete registration (Establishment ID: EBRBEC000003 for NATS, E11191000001 for NAPS).
3. Then visit iocl.com, go to 'What's New', open 'Engagement of Apprentices at Barauni Refinery 2026-27(I)' and read the detailed advertisement.
4. Fill in the Microsoft Form (Apprenticeship Additional Data Form) linked in the advertisement — this is mandatory.
5. Complete both Step I (NAPS/NATS) and Step II (Microsoft Form) before the last date. Applications in any other mode are rejected.

• Learn and support tasks in chemical, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or clerical work as per the trade
• Maintain training records and complete the prescribed on-the-job training
• Attend theory and practical sessions as scheduled during the training period
