Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), a public sector bank under the Government of India, is recruiting Security Guards for its subordinate staff cadre in Tamil Nadu. The bank has identified Chennai as the immediate need, while keeping the option to place selected staff at any branch or office across the state. This drive is reserved for former members of the armed forces, including eligible Ex-Agniveers, so it is designed as a civilian banking role that uses prior service discipline and security experience.

The role combines watch-and-ward work with the use of modern bank security systems. You may be assigned to a customer-facing branch, an administrative office, or another bank property, and your work can cover the movement of bank assets as well as control of people entering and leaving the premises. Shift readiness is essential because the bank operates this security function throughout the day and night.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Service background: You must be an Ex-Serviceman or Ex-Agniveer from the Army, Navy or Air Force. Disabled Ex-Servicemen and dependants of service personnel killed in action are not covered by this recruitment.
• Education ceiling: This is a subordinate-cadre role for school-level candidates. A person who has passed graduation or an equivalent examination cannot apply, even if the minimum school qualification is met.
• Language: You need to speak, read and write Tamil. The bank tests local-language knowledge separately, so practical reading and communication ability matters.
• Posting and shifts: The present requirement is in Chennai, but posting can be anywhere in Tamil Nadu. You must be willing to work rotational, night and holiday shifts as part of a continuous security roster.
• Probation: Appointment begins with six months of active-service probation. Confirmation depends on successful completion of that period and continued compliance with the bank's service and conduct rules.
• Medical and character checks: Final appointment remains subject to medical fitness, character and antecedent verification. Your service discharge record must show exemplary character, and the required armed-forces medical category must have been held at discharge.
• Reservation: The notified seats are exclusively for the eligible service categories and are not identified for PwD reservation. OBC applicants in the creamy layer must apply under the general category, while reserved-category claims need current certificates in the prescribed Central Government format.
• Pre-examination training: The bank may arrange free training at Chennai for specified groups who opt for it. Travel, lodging and food costs remain your responsibility, and attending the training does not guarantee selection.
• Test attendance: Online and fitness-test venues are attended at your own cost and risk. Late arrival, missing identity proof, or failure to produce original eligibility records can end your participation.
• Updates and disputes: Further notices will appear on the bank's official careers page. The English advertisement controls any interpretation, and recruitment-related disputes fall under the courts in Chennai.
