About This Job

Apply for 1 Technical Assistant post in IITR. B.Sc or 3-year engineering diploma eligible. Salary: Rs 18,000. Last date: 11 Sep 2026.

IITR Technical Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is engaging a Laboratory Assistant, Technician, Technical Assistant or Field Assistant for a disaster-management project in the Department of Architecture and Planning. Led by principal investigator Ram Sateesh Pasupuleti, the work is supported by the Department of Science and Technology under its Technology Development Programme. The project links technology with the practical needs of mountain communities, making this a field-focused support role rather than a desk-only appointment.

The project aims to build an integrated intelligent disaster-management system for mountain communities in India. IIT Roorkee is working with partner institutions including IIT Patna, NIT Surathkal, Amrita University and UPES Dehradun. The research combines community knowledge, real-time monitoring sensors, spatial information and other data sources to improve multi-hazard early warning and response. Your support will help bring field observations and laboratory upkeep into that shared framework.

Field engagement in Uttarakhand is central to the assignment. The team needs practical help while working with village communities, disaster agencies and development organisations. You should be comfortable moving between field coordination, basic data support and everyday laboratory tasks. The notice describes an intense field-work component, so applicants looking only for an indoor technical post should consider this condition carefully.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: The engagement is for eight months and is tied to the funded project. It should not be treated as a route to a regular IIT Roorkee appointment.
  • Travel and fieldwork: The assignment involves villages in Uttarakhand and coordination with community stakeholders and public agencies.
  • Collaborative setting: Data and working methods must fit a common framework agreed with the project's partner institutions.
  • Reservation preference: The notice gives preference to SC and ST applicants when qualifications and experience are equal.
  • Interview travel: IIT Roorkee will not provide TA or DA for attending an interview.
  • Credential check: Original educational and experience records must be produced when called for verification.

Application Submission Notes

Send a plain-paper application with a detailed chronological CV to the principal investigator's office by email or post. The notice also mentions producing the papers at an interview, but it does not show a confirmed walk-in schedule in the extracted copy. Use the official PDF for the principal investigator's contact details and do not rely on an address reproduced by a third-party site.

Your application should make any field, laboratory, community or technical experience easy to identify, because those areas closely match the project. Keep the originals ready for verification if you are shortlisted. No separate online form is named, so applicants should follow the submission route in the official notice itself.

Responsibilities

  • Support field visits and data collection in Uttarakhand villages
  • Coordinate with community members, disaster agencies, and development organisations
  • Collect and organise primary and secondary disaster-management data
  • Help maintain the laboratory premises and routine lab activities
  • Assist the team with monitoring, spatial, and field information
  • Keep field records and share updates with the project investigators
  • Follow the common research framework used by partner institutions
