IIT Jammu RA III and JRF Recruitment 2026 - 3 Posts

Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) has released Advt. No. IITJMU/RC/A-09 dated 01 June 2026 for project staff under the R&D project titled Litter Vision: Combating Plastic Waste Crisis in the Himalayan Regions with AI and IoT - The Cases of Jammu and Sikkim. The project is sanctioned by the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS).

The appointment is initially for 8 months and may be extended based on performance. This is a strong opportunity for researchers who have worked on smart waste management, circular economy, microplastics, environmental modelling, solid waste management, or sustainable waste systems. Who Can Apply?

For Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

• Qualification: You need B.E./B.Tech and M.E./M.Tech in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, or another relevant discipline.
• Science route: You can also apply with M.Sc. in Environmental Science or a relevant discipline with at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA.
• National test: GATE, CSIR-UGC NET, or another national-level exam by central government departments, agencies, or institutions is listed for JRF.
• Without national test: Applicants without the listed national test may be considered for Project Associate at a lower applicable salary.

For Research Associate III (RA-III)

• Ph.D. route: You need a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related area.
• M.Tech route: You can also apply with M.E./M.Tech plus 3 years of research or industrial experience and at least 1 SCI-indexed journal publication.

Preferred Research Profile

• Waste management: Knowledge of solid waste, liquid waste, plastic waste, and circular economy will help.
• Field work: Experience in field sampling, waste characterization, and sustainability assessment is desirable.
• Project area: The work connects environmental research with AI and IoT for Himalayan region waste-management problems.

Age Limit

• JRF upper age limit: 28 years.
• RA-III upper age limit: 35 years.
• Age relaxation: Up to 5 years for SC/ST, women, and physically handicapped candidates; 3 years for OBC-NCL candidates.

Salary

• Research Associate III: Rs. 67,000 per month plus HRA as applicable.
