Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released Advertisement No. IITH/CS/55 inviting online applications for 10 Library Trainee posts on a purely contractual basis. The engagement is initially for one year, with a possible extension based on your performance and the Institute's requirements. Only candidates who passed their MLIS examination in 2025 or 2026 are eligible — this is aimed at fresh MLIS graduates, and candidates who have already completed Library Trainee training elsewhere cannot apply. As a Library Trainee, you will get hands-on exposure to how a modern technical institute library is run, working alongside library staff on cataloguing, circulation, and digital library systems.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (First Class as defined by the awarding Institute/University).
• Eligibility Window: You must have passed your MLIS examination in 2025 or 2026 only.
• Desirable: Basic knowledge of IT and IT applications related to libraries.
• Category-wise Vacancies: UR: 5, OBC: 3, SC: 1, EWS: 1 (Total: 10).
• Candidates who have already completed Library Trainee training at any institution are not eligible to apply — if this is discovered at any stage, your candidature will be cancelled.

Age Limit

• The upper age limit is 25 years as on 4 August 2026 (the last date for submission of the online application), which is also the cut-off date for reckoning your qualification.
• Age Relaxation: Applicable for reserved categories as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 30,000 per month.
• This amount is subject to statutory deductions as applicable; no separate TA/DA is paid for attending the selection process.

Terms of Engagement

• The appointment is purely temporary and contractual for one year, and it can be terminated by either side with one month's notice during the contract period.
• You will be expected to work six days a week, covering shifts such as Morning and Evening as required by the library.
• Medical facility is limited to outpatient (OPD) treatment during emergencies, with minimal charges of Rs. 100 for normal OPD and Rs. 200 for specialists; no reimbursement of medical expenses is admissible.
• You must hold a valid health insurance policy for the engagement period, obtained at your own expense, and submit a copy at the time of joining.
• Legal disputes arising from this recruitment can be challenged only in the High Court of Telangana.

Selection Process

IIT Hyderabad will select Library Trainees in 2 stages:

1. Written Test: Based on the UGC NET syllabus for Library and Information Science (Subject Code 59).
2. Personal Interaction (Interview)

The selection process will be held at IIT Hyderabad, Kandi, Sangareddy. Carry self-attested copies of all your certificates (educational, caste, experience) along with the originals for verification at the time of the test/interview. Being called for the test/interview only means the Institute feels you may be suitable — it does not guarantee selection.
