ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research (ICMR-NITHR), Jabalpur is recruiting contract staff for health research projects, laboratory work and project administration. The institute works under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. These are short-term project engagements linked to an upcoming manpower outsourcing arrangement.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Research Scientists: Medical, non-medical and social science roles support health technology assessment, scrub typhus diagnostics, malaria surveillance, viral diagnostics, tribal healthcare, pregnancy-related virus research, acute encephalitis syndrome and dengue research.
• Project Administrative Officer and Project Field Officer: Both support the ADOPT-HTAIn health technology assessment project, with separate office and field functions.
• Project Technical Support III: Assignments cover malaria, tribal healthcare, sickle cell disease, encephalitis and dengue. The sickle cell implementation research positions are based in Chhindwara district.
• Senior Project Assistant: This role combines project office work with research support for the encephalitis therapeutics project.
• Project Technical Support II: Roles support measles and rubella surveillance and the study of virus replication in pregnancy.
• Project Technical Support I: Separate assignments cover malaria sample handling and data work for the tribal healthcare study.
• Project Assistant Multipurpose Admin and Project MTS: These positions support the Model Rural Health Research Unit, Jheet, Chhattisgarh.

Post-wise Duties

Project Research Scientists

You will work on the research question assigned to your project. Depending on the role, this includes molecular diagnostics, sequencing and bioinformatics, virus or cell culture, patient follow-up, field data analysis, research reporting or staff supervision.

Administrative and Field Officers

As the Administrative Officer, you will handle project records, procurement, finance-related coordination and meeting arrangements. As the Field Officer, you will support surveys, participant contact, local coordination and field records.

Technical Support and Senior Project Assistant

Your project assignment determines whether you support laboratory assays, patient samples, field surveys or data analysis. The Senior Project Assistant also handles project office work alongside the encephalitis research team.

Project Assistant Multipurpose and Project MTS

The Admin assistant supports records, salary preparation and procurement at the rural research unit. The MTS role helps with field and laboratory activities, data entry and routine project work.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: Engagement lasts for three months or until the manpower outsourcing GeM contract is finalised, whichever happens first. Posts also end with their projects.
• Renewal: Any further term depends on project needs and satisfactory performance. You do not gain a right to a regular appointment through this engagement.
• Project preferences: Local applicants and those with higher qualifications and relevant work experience receive preference under the notice.
• Travel: You must arrange your own travel and accommodation. The institute does not pay TA/DA for attending the interview or joining.
• Leave and changes: Leave follows ICMR project-staff policy. The institute may change the vacancy requirement or cancel or modify the recruitment.
• Reserved positions: If a reserved-category applicant is unavailable, the selection committee may recommend another category; a future vacancy is then to be filled from the relevant category.
• Updates: Check the institute website for changes and results. Addenda and corrigenda will not be announced in newspapers.
