ICFRE is hiring 1 Director for its Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) in Jorhat, Assam on a deputation basis. The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), headquartered in Dehradun and functioning as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has invited applications to fill 1 Director post at the Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat on deputation. This senior research leadership role is open to serving IFS officers with 26 years of service and forestry research experience, or Group A Scientists with a First Class Master's Degree and long-standing research experience. The deputation tenure is 5 years or till superannuation, whichever comes first, and the selected officer may later be transferred to another Director post within ICFRE, anywhere in India. ICFRE runs several forestry research institutes across the country — including at Dehradun, Jabalpur, and Shimla — and the Rain Forest Research Institute at Jorhat is its key centre for research on rainforest ecosystems and forestry issues specific to the North-East region. Heading this institute means guiding scientific research work that directly shapes forest policy and conservation practice in the region.

Who Can Apply?

For Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officers:

• You must be a serving IFS officer who has completed 26 years of service (counted from your year of allotment), with at least 5 years of research experience in Forestry Research.
• Time spent completing a Ph.D. does not count toward this research experience unless you held a regular Forestry Research post at the same time.
• Desirable: A Doctoral Degree.

For Scientists:

• You must have a First Class Master's Degree in Basic Sciences, Agriculture & Allied Sciences, Forestry & Allied Sciences, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
• You need 26 years of service as a Group 'A' Scientist and at least 15 years of experience in Forestry Research.
• Desirable: A Doctoral Degree.

The Council can relax the qualification or experience requirements for exceptionally qualified and meritorious candidates. IFS officers must have completed the mandatory "cooling-off" period between two spells of deputation to be considered.

Age Limit

• You should be below 57 years of age as on 31 October 2026, the crucial date fixed for determining eligibility.

Salary

• The selected Director will get a salary of Rs. 1,82,200 to Rs. 2,24,100 per month under Pay Level 15 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• You will also get allowances as admissible under ICFRE rules.

• All applicants: Rs. 500, payable by Demand Draft in favour of the Accounts Officer, ICFRE.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam for this post. Selection is based on:

1. Screening of Applications: Your bio-data, vigilance clearance report (13-point CVC format), and Annual Confidential Reports/APARs for the last seven years (2018-19 to 2024-25) will be reviewed against the eligibility criteria.
2. Forwarding Through Proper Channel: Your parent department or cadre-controlling authority must forward your application along with the required certificates.
3. Final Selection: ICFRE selects the most suitable candidate for the Director, RFRI Jorhat post, with relaxation possible for exceptionally meritorious candidates.

Note: If you are given the appointment and do not report for duty, either on your own or at the instance of your cadre authority, you will be debarred from consideration for such posts for a period of 5 years. Once you apply, you cannot withdraw your candidature. The Council also reserves the right not to fill any or all of the advertised vacancies if circumstances so warrant.
