HPCL Turnaround Consultant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is engaging Turnaround Consultants at its Visakh Refinery for a major block turnaround covering critical process units. The refinery plans to carry out concentrated maintenance during a tightly controlled shutdown, and the consultants will add practical experience to the planning, field coordination and safe return-to-service work. The engagement is meant for superannuated employees from public-sector oil and gas companies who understand refinery shutdowns from direct operating or maintenance experience.

The assignment is a short-term contract linked to the Visakh Refinery turnaround. It spans static equipment, operations, instrumentation, electrical, rotary and civil work, allowing applicants to choose the stream that matches their former department. The common purpose across all streams is to spot constraints early, coordinate people and equipment, and help the refinery complete critical-path work safely.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Maintenance Static: covers heat exchangers, vessels, columns, reactors, heaters, pipelines, valves and associated piping in process units.
  • Operations: supports shutdown preparation, de-inventory, isolation, equipment handover, commissioning and unit stabilization.
  • Maintenance Instrumentation: covers field instruments, control valves, analysers, automation, interlocks and control systems.
  • Maintenance Electrical: focuses on refinery power distribution, switchgear, motors, transformers, drives, substations and related equipment.
  • Maintenance Rotary: covers pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, blowers and their auxiliaries.
  • Maintenance Civil: supports refinery structures, foundations, roads, buildings, trenches, drains and access facilities.

Post-wise Duties

Maintenance Static

You will review work packs, sequence jobs and monitor static-equipment shutdown work, including isolation, inspection, pressure testing, restoration and start-up readiness. You will also coordinate contractors and technical teams around quality and critical-path issues.

Operations

You will support safe shutdown and handover of process units, then help with de-isolation, commissioning and stabilization. Daily reviews, constraint reporting and recovery planning form part of this stream.

Maintenance Instrumentation

You will monitor calibration, repair, replacement and functional testing of critical instrumentation and automation systems. The work also covers loop checks, logic checks, trip testing and restoration before start-up.

Maintenance Electrical

You will coordinate inspection, preventive maintenance, relay and cable testing, protection checks and restoration of electrical systems. You will review contractor quality and make sure safety procedures support timely equipment readiness.

Maintenance Rotary

You will oversee inspection and overhaul work on pumps, compressors, turbines and other rotating equipment. This includes alignment, seal and bearing checks, trial runs, troubleshooting and condition monitoring.

Maintenance Civil

You will plan civil repair support for foundations, structures, platforms and access facilities while coordinating contractors and resources. Site constraints, measurements, quality records and punch-point closure are key concerns in this stream.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract period: The assignment is planned for three months from around October or November and remains subject to medical fitness and the upper-age condition.
  • Shift pattern: Work may be in a general shift or rotating shifts of eight or twelve hours, as advised by the Turnaround In-Charge.
  • Cooling period: At least two months must separate retirement and re-engagement.
  • Service record: Applicants must have no major penalty during service and no minor penalty in the final ten years of service.
  • Termination: Either side may end the contract early by giving thirty days' notice.
  • Confidentiality: Consultants must follow the confidentiality clause applicable to regular employees.
  • Travel: HPCL will not pay TA or DA for a physical interaction, and joining expenses are not reimbursed.
