About This Job

GPSC is hiring 1 Women and Child Officer / Deputy Director (Women Welfare), Class-1 under the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Gujarat. This is a Special Recruitment Drive only for Divyang (Persons with Disability) candidates. If you have a Post Graduate degree in Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology with about 5 years of experience, you can apply online. The last date is 19 May 2026. Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) Women and Child Officer Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) has released Advertisement No. 10/2026-27 for direct recruitment of 1 Women and Child Officer / Deputy Director (Women Welfare), Class-1 post under the Commissionerate of Women and Child Development, Gujarat State. This is a Special Recruitment Drive (First Recruitment Event) for Divyang (PwD) candidates only — specifically for the disability group of Blind / Low Vision (LV 40-70%). The vacancy is reserved under Group A. Other candidates are not eligible to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Disability Requirement (Mandatory):

  • Only candidates with Blindness or Low Vision (LV — 40% to 70%) under Group A can apply for this Special Recruitment Drive.
  • Candidates having any other type of disability are NOT eligible.
  • Must produce a Disability Certificate in the format prescribed by Health & Family Welfare Department vide circular dated 15/12/2025 (No. HFWD/MSM/e-file/7/2024/1833/A).

Educational Qualification & Experience:

  • Post Graduate degree in Social Work or Sociology or Psychology from a recognised University (Central or State Act / UGC recognised institution).
  • About 5 years experience in any one of the following:
    • On the post not below the rank of Inspector / Field Officer, Class III, in the subordinate service of the Commissionerate of Women and Child Development, Gujarat State; OR
    • Social Work or Social Administration in Government / Local Bodies / Government Undertaking Board / Corporation, equivalent to Inspector/Field Officer Class III; OR
    • Social Work or Social Administration in a registered Non-Government Organisation; OR
    • On a post connected with Social Service in a Public Sector Organisation equivalent to Inspector/Field Officer, Class III.

Other Requirements:

  • Basic computer knowledge as per Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967.
  • Adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 42 years as on last date of online application (19 May 2026).
  • Minimum age: 21 years.

  • Persons with Disabilities: 10 years (maximum up to 45 years)
  • Gujarat Government employees: Upper age limit may not apply if experience is required as qualification, or 5 years relaxation as per Gujarat Civil Services Rules 1967

Salary

  • Pay Matrix: Level-10 of the 7th Pay Commission (Rs. 56,100 - Rs. 1,77,500 per month)
  • Grade Pay: Rs. 5,400
  • Plus DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Gujarat Government rules.

  • Deposit Fee (for Preliminary Exam Consent):
  • Unreserved category: Rs. 500/- (refundable deposit)
  • Reserved category (women / SEBC / SC / ST / EWS / PwD / Ex-Servicemen): Rs. 400/- (refundable deposit)
  • This is a deposit only and is refunded after appearing in the exam.

Selection Process

Selection is in 2 stages through direct recruitment:

  1. Preliminary Test (300 Marks): Total 300 questions for 300 marks in 180 minutes. Part-A: General Studies — 100 questions, 100 marks (60 minutes). Part-B: Concerned Subject — 200 questions, 200 marks (120 minutes). Held at Gandhinagar / Ahmedabad. Where Divyang candidates do not get adequate representation, those who score at least 10% of total marks in Preliminary will be considered for selection.
  2. Interview (100 Marks): 10 candidates called for interview for this 1 post.
  3. Final Merit: 50% weightage of Preliminary marks + 50% weightage of Interview marks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise women welfare schemes under the Commissionerate of Women and Child Development, Gujarat
  • Monitor implementation of state and central schemes for women empowerment, protection, and rehabilitation
  • Coordinate with district-level officers, NGOs, and community-based organisations on women welfare projects
  • Investigate complaints related to women's safety, domestic violence, and welfare schemes
  • Prepare progress reports, budget proposals, and policy briefs for the Department
  • Conduct field visits, awareness camps, and training programmes for women beneficiaries
  • Maintain liaison with police, judiciary, and social organisations for women in distress cases
  • Represent the Department in inter-departmental meetings and state-level reviews

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Post Graduate degree in Social Work or Sociology or Psychology from a recognised University

Preferred Qualification

Post Graduate degree in Social Work with experience in Commissionerate of Women and Child Development
