Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) has released Advt. No. 01/2026-27 for 103 posts of Executive Engineer (Civil), Class-I and Deputy Executive Engineer (Civil), Class-II in two government departments of Gujarat. The posts are spread across the Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply & Kalpsar Department (75 posts) and the Road & Building Department (28 posts). The preliminary exam is tentatively scheduled for 10 May 2026 so you should start preparing right away. Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You need a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil) or Technology (Civil) from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government.
- Computer Knowledge: Basic knowledge of computer applications as required under Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules 1967.
- Language: You must have adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.
- Note: If you have appeared for your degree exam and the result is awaited, you can still apply for the Preliminary Exam. However, you must produce proof of passing the degree exam at the time of the Main Examination.
Age Limit
- You must be at least 20 years old and must not have crossed 35 years as on 15 April 2026 (last date of the advertisement).
- General Category Women: Upper age relaxation of 5 years (up to 40 years)
- EWS/SEBC/SC/ST Male (Gujarat Origin): Upper age relaxation of 5 years (up to 40 years)
- EWS/SEBC/SC/ST Women (Gujarat Origin): Upper age relaxation of 10 years (maximum 45 years, includes 5 years of reservation relaxation for women)
- Ex-Servicemen: Length of military service (at least 5 years) + 3 years

Salary
- Class-I (Executive Engineer): Pay scale of Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700 per month (R.O.P-2016, Level No. 11)
- Class-II (Deputy Executive Engineer): Pay scale of Rs. 53,100 to Rs. 1,67,800 per month (R.O.P-2016, Level No. 09)
- You will also get DA, HRA, medical allowance, and other benefits as per Gujarat Government rules.
- Pension under the New Pension Scheme (NPS) is applicable.

Selection Process
Selection will be done in 3 stages:
- Preliminary Examination (Objective/MCQ Type) — 500 Marks:
- Paper-I: Part-1 General Studies (100 marks) + Part-2 Engineering Aptitude (100 marks) — 2 hours
- Paper-II: Civil Engineering (300 marks) — 3 hours
- Paper-I Part-1 will be in Gujarati, Part-2 in English. Paper-II in English.
- Important: Prelim is a screening test only. Marks scored in the Preliminary Exam are NOT counted for the final merit.
- About 15 times the total vacancies will be called for the Main Exam.
- Main Written Examination (Descriptive/Conventional Type) — 800 Marks:
- Paper-I: Gujarati Language — 100 marks — 2 hours
- Paper-II: English Language — 100 marks — 2 hours
- Paper-III: Civil Engineering-I — 200 marks — 3 hours
- Paper-IV: Civil Engineering-II — 200 marks — 3 hours
- Paper-V: Civil Engineering-III — 200 marks — 3 hours
- Paper-I is in Gujarati medium, Paper-II to V are in English.
- Personal Interview — 100 Marks:
- About 3 times the vacancies will be called for interview from those who qualify in Mains.
Final Merit = Marks in Main Written Exam (800) + Interview Marks (100) = Total 900 Marks

Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and supervise civil engineering projects for roads, bridges, dams, canals, and water supply infrastructure
- Prepare detailed project reports, cost estimates, and technical specifications for government construction works
- Monitor ongoing construction projects and ensure quality standards and timelines are met
- Review contractor proposals, approve work orders, and manage project budgets
- Conduct site inspections and prepare progress reports for senior officials
- Handle land acquisition, environmental clearance, and regulatory compliance for infrastructure projects
- Manage and guide junior engineers and technical staff working under your supervision

Exam Pattern
The GPSC Engineering Service (Civil) exam has 3 stages. The Preliminary Exam is a screening test only — your Prelim marks are not counted in the final merit list.
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Objective/MCQ) — 500 Marks
- Paper-I (Part-1 General Studies): 100 marks — MCQ type, set in Gujarati
- Paper-I (Part-2 Engineering Aptitude): 100 marks — MCQ type, set in English
- Paper-I Duration: 2 hours
- Paper-II (Civil Engineering): 300 marks — MCQ type, set in English — 3 hours
About 15 times the vacancies will be called for the Main Exam from Prelim qualified candidates.
Stage 2: Main Written Examination (Descriptive/Conventional) — 800 Marks
- Paper-I (Gujarati Language): 100 marks — 2 hours (Gujarati medium)
- Paper-II (English Language): 100 marks — 2 hours
- Paper-III (Civil Engineering-I): 200 marks — 3 hours (English medium)

The standard of Gujarati language is equivalent to 12th standard (Higher Level) of Gujarat Board. The standard of English is equivalent to 12th standard (Lower Level). The Civil Engineering papers are at degree level of Gujarat Technological Universities.
Stage 3: Personal Interview — 100 Marks
About 3 times the vacancies will be called for interview. Final Merit = Mains (800) + Interview (100) = 900 Marks total.
