The Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE), through its Forest Research Institute (FRI) at Dehradun, has invited candidates for a walk-in interview against 11 vacancies across 8 project posts funded by NHAI, ReNew Jal Urja, and the National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB). These are purely temporary, project-based positions tied to ongoing research projects on Sal regeneration, tree translocation, hydro-project floristic diversity, and medicinal plant demand studies. No written exam is required — selection is entirely through the walk-in interview. Who Can Apply?

Retired Technical Officer / Retired Range Officer (RTO/RRO) - Rs. 35,000/month:

  • Must be a retired Technical Officer or Range Officer who worked in a forest research organisation or forest department under the state/central government or its autonomous bodies
  • At least 25 years of experience in Silviculture and forest management activities
  • Knowledge of Sal and site conditions in the Shiwalik/terai region of Uttarakhand, and physically fit for extensive hilly terrain work

Senior Research Fellow (SRF) - Rs. 42,000/month + HRA:

  • First Class M.Sc. in Botany, Forestry or Environment Management
  • 2 years of research experience

Senior Project Fellow (SPF) - Rs. 28,000/month:

  • First Class M.Sc. in Forestry or Botany

Junior Project Fellow (JPF) - Rs. 24,000/month:

  • First Class M.Sc. in Forestry, Agroforestry or Botany

Project Assistant (PA), Sal Regeneration Study - Rs. 19,000-20,000/month:

  • B.Sc. in Forestry or Botany

Project Assistant (PA), Hydro Project - Rs. 23,000/month:

  • B.Sc. in Biology (Hons.)/Botany/Forestry/Agriculture

Project Assistant (PA), Medicinal Plants Survey - Rs. 22,000/month:

  • B.Sc. in Biology/Forestry/Agriculture

Field Assistant (FA) - Rs. 20,000/month:

  • Intermediate (12th pass)

Preference is given to candidates with prior field/research experience and knowledge of MS Office and plant identification, where applicable.

Age Limit

  • Retired Technical Officer/Retired Range Officer: Should not be more than 65 years on the date of advertisement.
  • Senior Research Fellow/Senior Project Fellow: Up to 32 years as on 01 June 2026.
  • Junior Project Fellow: Up to 28 years as on 01 June 2026.
  • Age Relaxation: Up to 5 years for SC/ST, Women, Persons with Disabilities and OBC candidates.

Salary

  • Senior Research Fellow: Rs. 42,000 per month + HRA
  • Retired Technical Officer/Retired Range Officer: Rs. 35,000 per month (consolidated), or basic pay as per Last Pay Certificate minus current pension, whichever is less
  • Senior Project Fellow: Rs. 28,000 per month (for 2 years)
  • Junior Project Fellow: Rs. 24,000 per month (consolidated)
  • Project Assistant (Hydro Project): Rs. 23,000 per month (fixed)
  • Project Assistant (Medicinal Plants Survey): Rs. 22,000 per month (fixed)
  • Field Assistant: Rs. 20,000 per month (consolidated)
  • Project Assistant (Sal Regeneration Study): Rs. 19,000 per month in years 1-2, rising to Rs. 20,000 in years 3-5

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is done entirely through the walk-in interview — there is no separate written exam.

  1. Document Verification: Bring your bio-data, passport-size photo, and self-attested copies of all certificates for verification at registration.
  2. Walk-in Interview: Eligible candidates are interviewed on the spot before the Selection Committee.

Retired Technical Officer/Range Officer candidates must additionally bring their Last Pay Certificate (LPC) and recent pension slip.

  2. Report for registration between 9:00 AM and 10:15 AM on your interview date — 28 July 2026 for RTO/RRO, SRF, SPF and JPF posts, or 29 July 2026 for Project Assistant and Field Assistant posts.
  3. Submit your documents at the office of the Group Coordinator (Research), FRI Main Building, P.O. New Forest, Dehradun - 248006.
  4. Attend the walk-in interview in the Board Room of the FRI Main Building.

No separate call letter will be issued, and no TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. Candidates already employed elsewhere must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current institute.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and maintaining nursery infrastructure for seedling production
  • Collect, treat and sow seeds and cuttings of forest species as per project requirements
  • Carry out field surveys, plantation site preparation and soil moisture conservation work
  • Support data collection, statistical analysis and MS Office-based reporting for the project
  • Coordinate with State Forest Department field staff and other project teams
  • Monitor and maintain project trial plots and translocated trees
  • Prepare periodic progress reports for the Principal Investigator
