ECHS Thiruvananthapuram Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), through Station Headquarters Thiruvananthapuram, is hiring contractual staff for the polyclinics that treat ex-servicemen and their families in south Kerala and the neighbouring Tuticorin station. The notice bundles five very different roles — three senior doctor roles, a dental support role and watch-and-ward staff — into a single shortlisting drive for the 2026-27 requirement. Nothing here is a regular government job; every engagement is a short contract renewed against need. Retired armed forces medical officers and civilian specialists are both in the running, because most of the seats are open to the general category.

Posts and Disciplines

• Gynaecologist: a consulting post at the Pathanamthitta polyclinic, for a post-graduate in the concerned speciality.
• Medical Specialist (General Medicine): general-medicine consulting work at the Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam polyclinics, on the same MD/MS or DNB terms as the Gynaecologist post. You can name either station as your first choice on the form.
• Radiologist: imaging cover at Kollam and Pathanamthitta. The notice reads the qualification strictly off the schedules of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and Schedule VI of the Central Health Service Regulations 1996, so an irregular PG route will not clear scrutiny.
• Dental Hygienist: a single seat at the Tuticorin polyclinic, open to diploma holders in dental hygiene and to armed forces candidates who hold a Class 1 DH or DORA course.
• Chowkidar: watch-and-ward staff for Mavelikara, Pathanamthitta and Tuticorin. The Pathanamthitta seat is earmarked for ex-servicemen; the other two are general.

You may name a first and second polyclinic preference on the form, but only for the one post you are applying against.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract length: An ex-serviceman taken against a reserved slot gets a twelve-month engagement, while a civilian selected in lieu of an ex-servicemen vacancy gets eleven months only.
• Unpaid handing-over training: Medical Specialists, Radiologists and Gynaecologists must finish ten days of on-job training and produce a certificate before taking charge — that period carries no pay and cannot be skipped.
• Cooling-off gap: If you have worked in an ECHS empanelled hospital, you need a clear gap of one year before this appointment.
• One post only: The notice asks you to apply against a single post and at most two polyclinic locations.
• Earlier declines: Anyone selected in the last one year who then refused to join is asked not to apply again.
• AWPO registration: Ex-servicemen and their dependants must register with the AWPO and quote that registration number on the form.
• Undertaking: Ex-servicemen officers sign a declaration that they draw no resettlement benefit from the DGR or the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, and will surrender any such benefit if appointed.
• Termination: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice, and tax is deducted at source.
• Discretion: The appointing authority can reject an incomplete application without giving reasons, and terms can change at any stage without compensation.
• Where changes appear: Amendments to this notice are published only on the ECHS website, so check it before you post your form.
