About This Job

Apply for Senior Project Associate post in CSIR NIO Goa. M.Sc. Marine Chemistry + 3 yrs research eligible. Salary: Rs 42,000. Last date: 25 Oct 2026.

CSIR NIO Senior Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), a laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is hiring a Senior Project Associate for biogeochemistry work at its headquarters in Goa. This is a short project engagement, not a regular post. The role suits a marine chemist with a few years of research behind them who is happy to split time between coastal field trips and laboratory analysis.

The heart of the job is sampling in mangrove ecosystems along the coast and then running biogeochemical analysis on what you bring back. The notice lists hands-on work experience in biogeochemistry as desirable, so earlier coastal or estuarine chemistry work will help your application stand out.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The position is to be filled for a period of three months only. Treat it as a short research assignment rather than a long-term job.
  • Research experience counts after the M.Sc.: The research experience the notice asks for must be gained after your M.Sc. degree, so research done during the master's itself does not add to it.
  • Specialisation matters: A general Marine Science or Oceanography M.Sc. is not enough on its own; the degree must carry a Marine Chemistry specialisation, or be in Hydrochemistry.
  • Field work: The job involves regular coastal field trips and mangrove sampling, so expect time away from the Goa laboratory.
  • Vacancy reference: This listing is vacancy GAP003905/3336-26. NIO runs several project vacancies at the same time, so check the code to be sure you are looking at the right one.

Responsibilities

  • Collect samples from mangrove ecosystems
  • Join coastal field trips and handle on-site sampling work
  • Run biogeochemical analysis on field samples in the laboratory
  • Process and organise the data produced from field and lab work
  • Prepare analysis results for the project team

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

M.Sc. in Marine Science (specialisation in Marine Chemistry), Oceanography (specialisation in Marine Chemistry) or Hydrochemistry, with at least 3 years of research experience after the M.Sc.

Experience

3 - No limit years

Minimum 3 years of research experience after the M.Sc. Desirable: work experience in biogeochemistry.
